How's this for a Social Security Push Poll:
How do you feel about Social Security?

a. Social Security is a safety net program to ensure that older people receive a minimum level of comfort in their old age. The government should not privatize it.

b. If an elderly person cannot afford a place to live or food in their old age, it is their own fault. They should have planned ahead, and I shouldn't have to pay for them. Privatize Social Security.

here is a very interesting article that explains what i'm getting at with this question:

3. I choose 'a' because I am human.
Republican reptiles hate old people, so they would choose 'b'.

6. You're right.
a lot of them would choose b.

However - all those apolitical moderate centrists types? would choose a, just because of the visuals that b calls up.

we need to steal the conservative penchant for push-polling and make it our own. it's too easy to come up with push polls that favor dem views.

here's another example:

How do you feel about benefits for Veterans?

a. They put their lives on the line for our freedom - we should make sure they get adequate combat pay and healthcare when they get home.

b. They choose to go to war, why should they get extra benefits? cut 'em!

8. Oh, I like the idea of re-framing questions.
:)

I wish someone like Chomsky or Lakoff would post here regularly too (we could use all the help we can get), but you are doing great! :toast:

10. thanks!
post-election i got on this kick of reading all about how the conservatives got to where they are (still haven't read lakoff yet, i hate to admit), but i've been really working on ways of re-framing. i'm thrilled to death that Dean is incorporating it where it counts too.

4. Interesting.
:hi: Been too busy to work on that other project, but the USA Next organization is starting to get a lot of scrutiny. Al Franken spent a lot of time on it this morning and exposed more of the connections with the Swiftboatliars as well as the ridiculous attacks on AARP.

7. I haven't had time to work on it.
I got sidetracked on an election project for my local club that I have to finish, but at least these jerks are getting exposed anyway and on the media not just the internet.

11. and this is something that blows my mind on a regular basis...
with my northeastern catholic upbringing, i can't comprehend not having any sort of humility, and almost gleefully not caring about the welfare of others.

it shocks me whenever i hear soemone say something equally cold-blooded. I jsut wasn't raised with those values.

12. Yes. Especially when they claim to be Christians
or "compassionate conservatives." I swear, I haven't seen one ounce of compassion in this administration's policies.

As I've been saying for a while now, the Democratics are the party of "all for one, and one for all" and the republicans are the party of "every man for himself" (ie "I've got mine, and fuck you!").

13. exactly....
but even back in the day i don't remember even republicans vocally espousing those views. they might have thought it, but it was just unseemly to say it out loud.
