sorry to be so ghoulish, sorry to remind you about statistics and such but the official count this morning is 1,496 as i write.

there was a slight mention of the numbers when they hit one thousand, but it's just numbers, which always sound confusing and are easily manipulated. and each number is one of our son's or daughter's whom we will never see again except for those photos of them in uniform, looking so proud and eager and hopeful.

the 'statistics' are here:

1. What strikes me a being so sad is that 1500 isn't the true number of
casualties, at least not from what I understand. That's the number of poor men and women who are dead on the spot, not that die later.

15 or 1500, what does it matter if you died for lies, lust for power, and unsurpassed greed?

4. If they are wounded in Iraq and die later, YES they are included.
And no, 1 or 15 or 1500 or 15,000 makes no difference at all when tehy've died for lies & the greed of rich politicians and their cronies. Or as bush put it, his Haves and Have-Mores.

2. we ought to always mention the DEAD and the CASUALTIES together
sorry - not slamming you mopaul - but it annoys the hell out of me that the DEAD are called "casualties" and the injured are not mentioned at all. I think we ought to have a listing of all our amputies, blind, brain damaged, etc... Let's get the true cost out there and in the public eye.

Each dead soldier leaves a trail of walking wounded as well, with their grieving families and friends.

The TRUE COST needs to be trumpeted from the rooftops.

3. technically casualty means killed OR wounded
and fatality is the preferred pentagon terminology. there are about 3 or 4 thousand blinded, crippled and mentally scarred g.i.'s that go unmentioned, as do the over 100,000 dead Iraqi civilians who never attacked us.

6. pentagon doesn't "do" body counts for the indiginous population
We're too busy bringing the country "freedom" and "liberty" to worry about the people with the misfortune of trying to live there....

10. I just keep wondering about the 1,000's of Iraqi' and all the soldiers
who don't count in the official death toll. The ones who die in hospital and the ones who commit suicide and so on and so forth, also the contractors/mercenaries and the poor guys who accidently die in "accidents".

13. Sadly Vladimir, I believe you're correct
It shouldn't be such a hard job to hide fatalities, not for these people who have taken creative accounting courses at the feet of kenny boy lay, and bernie ebbers the guy who gave dick crashcart such good advise.
Someday, the true numbers will come out, and they will shock even the most hared hearted.
