Condi's dominatrix fashion
Rice's coat and boots speak of sex and power -- such a volatile combination, and one that in political circles rarely leads to anything but scandal. When looking at the image of Rice in Wiesbaden, the mind searches for ways to put it all into context. It turns to fiction, to caricature. To shadowy daydreams. Dominatrix! It is as though sex and power can only co-exist in a fantasy. When a woman combines them in the real world, stubborn stereotypes have her power devolving into a form that is purely sexual.

2. Condi didn't have a clue
when she chose such an inappropriate nazi-like attire for a European visit.

The fact she is so clueless reflects on her boss and his stupidity.

If she wants to appear in Vogue, let her resign as SOS.

12. I agree....
what do you all think of Katie "Butter-Won't-Melt" Couric of the TODAY SHOW? She seems to be a media whore herself of late -- catering to and kissing up to Re-pubic-ans and a Shrub hugger big time.

6. I agree but this dilutes the conversation
Yet another diversion to keep the collective eye off the ball. I find it sad that much of the debate in here focuses on someone or other's sexuality. It's irrelevant and it is manna to those who want to dumb down the discussion.

Discussing any given topic in sexual terms is occasionally necessary; for example, where there is hypocrisy. Otherwise, it's pointless and a blind alley.

11. Oh, so I suppose you think we should focus on the lies...
that Ms. Rice tells instead of how she dresses? How quaint.

18. Your words, not mine
Moreover, nowhere in the text of my message is there any reference whatsoever to focussing on lies. That was neither stated explicitly by me in my post, nor can any inference, along those lines, be drawn from the text contained therein; inferences can only proceed from propositions that have previously been shown to be correct. Otherwise, one can only imply or resort to conjecture.

To reiterate the main point I intended to make, hopefully with a little more clarity, discussing sexuality is not really useful given the political context of this board. The only exception, as I DID explicitly state, is where there is hypocrisy, and a need for a reciprocal response, based upon discussing that person's sexuality.

My comments stand. Whether they are "quaint" is not really important to me although contending that they are does have a derogatory connotation, albeit sotto voce, the literal meaning of the term notwithstanding. But I'm sure your comments were not intended to be derogatory.

I shall try to be less quaint in future lest I offend anyone.

21. It was just a joke!
I totally agree with your first post. Discussion of how Ms. Rice dresses is a silly distraction from matters of substance (e.g. the fact that she's pathological liar). The Right is doing a great job of dumbing down U.S. politics so we don't need to help them by promoting US magazine material.

Sorry if I put you in a bad mood because I left off a </sarcasm> tag.

text lacks body language, voice tone etc so it's easy to get it wrong.

Thanks for the heads up on this one and feel free to bait me in future. Sure as fate I'll take the fly.

Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 02:42 AM by Pigwidgeon
Why do I say that?

It takes the emphasis off of Team Bush's epic incompetence and blundering and puts it on Condi Rice as the modern, high-powered version of Miss Thang.

For every column inch about Condi's smart fashion sense, there is one less column inch to discuss Condi's mendacity.

Any RW slut can hire a consultant to teach them how to dress.

It does not mitigate the fact that she has the blood of 1500 American soldiers and thousand of Iraqi civilians on her hands.

19. What was the name of that old TV cartoon show
With Boris and Latitia? I think they were Russian spies.

Condie has always reminded me of Latitia. Who would Boris be? Richard Perle? Can't be Rumsfeld - he has always been a perfect Dr. Strangelove.
