If and when the Patriot Act expires: An expiration celebration
The expiration date is either October 31 or December 31. I forget, but it is possible that the plodding pinheads in Congress will not be able to stop pushing paper in time to renew the law. Many provisions have also been scruntinized by members of both parties over the last three years.

So, I propose that if we do make it to the eve of the expiration date we organize USA Patriot Act expiration celebrations around the country. 5..4..3..2..1

GOODBYE PATRIOT ACT!!!!

2. it's being renewed stealthily
They are attaching riders in non-related bills that effectively renew the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act. And even more fascist goodness is included.

Not that they won't officially renew it sometimes soon, which they probably will.

4. No Experation....
I wish I could join some of you in your enthusiasm; but the (un)patriot act will not expire..

Here's a excerpt from a ACLU article: http://www.aclu-mass.org/cltf/civil_liberties_resolution_faq.html

  • "Why bother? Won't the PATRIOT Act expire in 2005?"

  • "This is not the case. Only a small portion of the USA PATRIOT Act is set to expire at the end of 2005. Most provisions of the Act, including secret "sneak and peek" search provisions, do not expire. In addition, the government is pressuring Congress to maintain all sections of the PATRIOT Act. And it is pushing to expand the unconstitutional violations of civil liberties in new legislation -- examples are the leaked "Patriot Act II" and proposed Victory Act. And we must not forget that the PATRIOT Act is only part of the problem. For instance, new FBI guidelines permitting spying on innocent Americans have nothing to do with the PATRIOT Act."

5. No celebration in sight, quite the contrary: PATRIOT II + HR 418!
