Hey , REMEMBER THIS?? "WHERE ARE THE WMD?"
All this brou ha-ha about the SOTU speech and the fateful line has gotten us pretty distracted FROM THE ISSUE OF lying ABOUT WMDS (NON NUCLEAR) AS A PRETEXT FOR GOING TO WAR IN iRAQ, WOULDN'T YOU THINK?

Did we take our eye off the ball for too long?

1. I agree . . . so what Bush blames Tenet for the uranium lie?
What about "we KNOW where the WMD's are" from Rumsfeld et al?

2. This will come back to also haunt them
I have heard on more than telecast where it has ended by the journalist citing that * reason for going to war WMD's still have not been found. I've heard this at the end of many of the Niger Urainium stories.

4. I agree. CBSnews.com headline yesterday for example.
The cbsnews.com headline yesterday was something like "CIA Accepts Blame for WMD Flap". It wasn't the "uranium flap" it was the WMD flap.

So, yes, I'm sure the Bushies would be very happy to have this SOTU issue and Tenet's mea culpa take down the whole WMD issue -- either with distraction or with confusion.

So far, it looks to me like the news is keeping both issues (uranim and WMD) separate and serious, and even the questionable nature of the al Qaeda link, but it bears being watchful.

5. makes you wonder how "solid" all the WMD "intelligence" was, no?
since acknowledgement of the nuke lies certainly help explain the total lack of nukes in Iraq, perhaps the total lack of WMD in Iraq can be explained the same way: IT'S ALL LIES

we've been given an opening here, it's shout-from-the-rooftops time, plant those seeds of doubt and mistrust!!!

6. I don't see these as two separate issues.

WMD encompasses all weapons: nuclear, chemical, biological. This is just one item on the list.

So, the nuclear part has been disproven. This reflects badly on the rest of the list. Where are the tons & liters of other weapons mentioned?

They used dubious information (or thoroughly discredited information) for part of the claim. It taints the rest of the claim.

Edit: typo.

7. the equation is
34 lies that led to war (of which yellowcake is one)
+
1 billion dollars a week cost of the occupation of Iraq
+
0 weapons of mass destruction found in Iraq
+
200 American soldiers killed in Iraq
=
1 new president in 2004
