One of my delivery drivers asked if he could fly US Flag on Company Truck
Just for today. At first I said I didn't think so but then after a moments thought I decided yes it would be all right just for today. I expressed my opinion about any political statements and how I was opposed to any at all. I will make an exception for today but still have some doubts. I think I made the correct decision but could use some feed back.

1. hanging it upside down would be political
hanging it correctly and tastefully is not political and fine anytime.

3. I think I would have handled it in much the same way...
While flying the flag to commemorate senseless death is not my personal choice, I won't fault others for wanting to express feelings in such a manner.

Feel safe.

16. What the hell, my phone's already tapped
The goobers doing it are pretty inept, though, so I'm not terribly worried. After all, if these fascists want me, there's really nothing that's going to stop them from getting me. I live in serene comfort knowing that there are other folks out there with the same designs on them, and they are equally powerless to do anything about it.

They just don't seem to recognize it yet. Hee, hee, hee.

as a vote of support for *, how about a 'Bush is a War Criminal' bumper sticker to round it off nicely?

5. How LARGE Is The Flag He Intends To Fly??
An antenna flag?
An SUV-style "clip-on" flag?

Or a 3x5 foot, front-porch flag?

I've seen locals around here with flag POLES mounted to their trucks and FULL SIZE flags (mostly tattered) flying from them... like they were going to a parade or something... but it's their "everyday" flag.

6. I don't see flying the U.S. flag as a political statement.
Doing so in a tasteful manner is a sign of true patriotism.

7. Yes!
Yes indeed, you made the right decision. If the flag has at times seemed a "political statement," it is because it was hijacked by the right wing. Recall "the flag belongs to all Americans." Reclaim it. Let it fly as a representation of your belief in America -- if nothing else, the America you know we will be again.

8. Perfectly acceptable
Why should the wing nuts think they have a monopoly on my country's flag? Sure, I believe in the Old United States, the one that stood up for people's rights, and defended the weak against the predatory. But the same flag flew over that country as flies today in a land of plenty for some and nothing for others: A country that wages war on the helpless, stomps on the powerless, tortures the friendless, and imprisons the unpopular without charge or evidence.

So fly the flag today, my friends. Someday, we'll again be in a nation of laws, not of men, where the written constitution trumps the personal prejudices of the men appointed to enforce it. And then the Stars and Stripes will stand for something good again.

17. Eh, It's O.K.
I used to think not. Then some years ago I noticed that, Televisa news anchors routinely and without (need for) explanation have a tiny little desk flag of their country always there while they read the news.

Heck, a female anchor flaunts her FEMININITY and has a ROSE in a vase on the desk while she reads the news, "perfect" make-up and all.

Before 9-11 the biggest display of U.S. flags was on used cars in used car lots, a flag on every single car----a totally COMMERCIAL activity (message: it's PATRIOTIC to BUY?).

"just for today"

Agreed, by limiting display to special, appropriate occasions it prevents jading, 'commercial' taint.

Why are people equating the Stars and Stripes with JorgeBooooooosh? It's the flag of OUR nation, not his. I'll bet all the Dem Candidates fly it proudly at all of their rallies, and rightly so.

20. I have a tattered flag on my dashboard, right under my
windshield.

I "rescued" it from some yahoo (neo-patriot) who probably didn't notice it breaking from its mount and flying off onto the roadside.

Some people have no respect, for the flag, nor littering.

Shame on him for allowing the flag today? Having doubts about his decision? Not allowing the flag to be flown from his company's vehicles every day?

25. I cannot begin to understand why this question is even being asked.
Of course he should be a allowed to fly it. And not just today. Anytime. If someone is offended by the sight of their own flag, let them be offended.

The fact that the question is even being asked is what causes me concern. Flying the flag does not equal knuckle-dragging jingoism. It's a symbol of everyone's America, not just their twisted version of America.

I swear, I can't stand all these posts that treat the flying of the flag as some distasteful act that should be avoided by enlightened people. Liberals complain bitterly when conservatives accuse us of not loving our country, but yet this board is full of lame people who say shit like the flag stands for terrorism and oppression. Jesus Christ.

26. Maybe . . .
Since this is a delivery truck for a business, bandit is trying to hold costs down by avoiding unnecessary drags on his vehicles. Gasoline prices have spiked recently for some reason (which I'm sure have nothing to do with anything the administration has done), and many small businesses operate so close to the bone that a difference of a quarter a gallon for gas can be crucial.
