Get to know your CODE RED terror alert
http://www.southjerseynews.com/issues/march/m031603e.htm

Sunday, March 16, 2003

If the nation escalates to "red alert," which is the highest in the color-coded readiness against terror, you will be assumed by authorities to be the enemy if you so much as venture outside your home, the state's anti-terror czar says.

Caspersen, a former FBI agent, was briefing reporters, alongside Gov. James E. McGreevey, on Thursday, when for the first time he disclosed the realities of how a red alert would shut the state down.

A red alert would also tear away virtually all personal freedoms to move about and associate.

"Red means all noncritical functions cease," Caspersen said. "Noncritical would be almost all businesses, except health-related."

"You must adhere to the restrictions announced by authorities and prepare to evacuate, if instructed. Stay alert for emergency messages."

"The state police and the emergency management people would take control over the highways.

From the Dept. of Homeland Security

Severe Condition (Red). A Severe Condition reflects a severe risk of terrorist attacks. Under most circumstances, the Protective Measures for a Severe Condition are not intended to be sustained for substantial periods of time. In addition to the Protective Measures in the previous Threat Conditions, Federal departments and agencies also should consider the following general measures in addition to the agency-specific Protective Measures that they will develop and implement:
Increasing or redirecting personnel to address critical emergency needs;
Assigning emergency response personnel and pre-positioning and mobilizing specially trained teams or resources;
Monitoring, redirecting, or constraining transportation systems; and
Closing public and government facilities.

1. And it seems to me that that is exactly what the
terrorists who attacked us and continue to plan against us want-for our freedoms, the very freedoms and ideals that have made us one of the greatest countries in the world, to be stripped away and stomped on due to fear, and for us to become a police state. WHY can't people see past their immediate fear and understand that? WHY can't they see that, by doing shit like this, and the PATRIOT Act, etc., we are giving the terrorists exactly what they want and they're winning?

One of the givens will be -

The Repub Convention. Better plan to demonstrate in other cities - unless they close the country down.

17. Well can't you do that from home?
:tinfoilhat:

Maybe only the poor and/or manual laborers will need to go outside to go to work thus greatly decreasing the number of people who need to be observed. Thin about THAT!

5. They may as well come for me now
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 08:53 AM by havocmom
cuz I never voted away my rights and I will exercise them in defiance of any bozo Nazi wannabes who try to control my movements.

I suggest we all take the same action. They can try to arrest everyone. If everyone turns out on the streets, they will be facing the same quagmire the Soviets faced when the people faced down the tanks there.

There would be causalities, so I also suggest that us older folks lead the parade in the event that they try to restirct the movement of the citizenry.

edit: typo

9. Seems the admin is making sure we don't know what happens
if we reach code red--way too convenient for them.

A proposal: Those in the military, government, and sensitive industries should have a code system; it just makes sense.

Citizens, however, should be (relatively) free to choose their own response in the event of a threat.

11. Smart terraists could use this to great effect.
By probing our defenses and finding out what it takes to push the terror alert to code red, they could cripple the country without actually launching an attack. By simply creating the impression in the DHS that an attack is imminent, they could do as much damage as a real attack.

12. The more reason why we must arm ourselves
We must make full use of the Second Amendment and arm ourselves. As Iraq as shown, the only defense against tyranny or occupation, is a well armed citizenry.

15. I couldn't do it. Sorry.
A gun in my hands is as good as a gun in the opposition's.

I have two powerful weapons against tyranny, though:

a voice and a vote.

14. And I thought that a red alert meant
that we should avoid public places by shopping on-line. (Apologies to Al Franken)
