This is to let you know we are thinking about all of you in this time of bad weather. I hope the weather starts to let up, so you can dry out some. I've been keeping track of this freak storm. It looks like another act of global warming. Just wanted to let all Californian's know your in our prayers.

Those of us nearer to San Francisco just got a whole lot of rain, and not much in the way of disasters.

For what it's worth, where I live, it's not at all uncommon to get over 50 inches of rain during the 6-8 month time that comprises the 'rainy season'.

We are in central Calif., up in the mountains, but we are up to our eyeballs in mud. It's feast or famine--rainy season with the monsoons, and then desert conditions for 8-9 months. Right now, everything is such a bright green, it almost hurts your eyes. And all of the wildflowers are blooming--poppies, lupines, fiddlehead, wild mustard, etc. Gorgeous.
But I have become quite adept at digging ditches and building aqueducts around our ranch.....

5. Well, that was Monday in Northern California....

Yesterday and today we've been bathed in sunshine and the bees up working the almond blossoms again. Wild Monday afternoon, though, I was watching a helicopter filming storm cells in the backyard, only to run inside and watch it on TV. Didn't you see me waving? :)

6. Well, the sun came out today, although I can see a new

storm coming in over the ocean. The ground was so saturated that I was able to get some big sagebrush weeds with giant taproots out of the ground today, something I couldn't do for years. :-)

I saw the sun briefly today, but it hasn't cleared up yet, as they predicted it would by this time in the afternoon.

I am SO thankful I have solid ground beneath my home. I am very thankful my roof doesn't leak. I am thankful I haven't lost power and heat.

Many others don't have these things to be thankful for. These storms have been terrible, and deadly.

13. Thanks for the thought and good wishes. I've been dealing with

mud for over a month now and have got to the point where I can say to myself "it's just a little mud" after comparing my problems to what others are going through. It is absolutely beautiful today, but they say we're getting more. We're a tough bunch tho, so we'll be ok - thanks for caring.

14. It's clearing in San Diego now

The heart of the low pressure system went over today. Lots of beautiful clouds. The scenery along the coast is stunning.

It's going to be very green here for a few months.

Then comes allergy season.

Then comes fire season.

I've actually enjoyed the rain. Of course, I live 3 blocks from work and my roof didn't leak. I know many of my fellow Californians didn't fare (sp?) as well. Thanks for your prayers.

To be honest, though, I have been enjoying the rain. Here in the central valley, we have really poor air quality, so the rain helps clear some of that yucky stuff away. Although there was some minor flooding due to all the trees that have been chopped down to make room for more homes...

Kinda gloomy today, but nothing we can't handle. Yesterday was low-70s and sunny.

Meanwhile, my relatives in Chicago have been bitching about the snow. No thanks.

21. I'm sorry for people who were affected by mudslides

But I am not a bit sorry for the rain. For the last two years I've watched my beloved mountain forests dying because of drought. (San Bernardino Mountains) Something like 60% of the Ponderosa Pines are dead from drought. All of the Douglas fir went into torpor and lost all their needles. (They are starting to come back...hurrah!) We have been on restricted water usage for more than a year before the rains came. Lakes were dried up everywhere. IMO, the benefits of the rain has outweighed the suffering it caused. Let it rain. I wish we got this much rain all the time. Of course it we did, people would have to stop building their houses on cliff edges but that's a whole other topic.
