2. They've already started to. They bought a full-page ad --
-- in today's NYTimes that was darned effective. I don't think they're going to take this lying down after the whuppin' they took on the Medicaid bill last time.

I think Bush has just swung a Louisville slugger at a hornet's nest and it'll be his butt that gets stung.

3. I Sincerely Hope they hit a Hornet's Nest
Almost everyone I know dropped out of AARP after the cozy endorsement they gave the pugs. Just goes to show you that pugs are not to be trusted even when you bend over for them.I would say that AARP needs those dollars coming in.

4. Agreed.
I called today to renew my membership, as well as to complain about the ad in the American Spectacle.

5. Agreed. There were thousands of people who just --
-- up and left them, and now they could use the support.

Still, they are very influential and fairly well funded. Bush has a formidable opponent in AARP.

7. I hope it's the shitstorm of the century
Look at this page of bullshit from William Brindley:

Haven't really had a chance to check out where AARP stands 'cause I just joined.

8. JOIN AARP
AARP is only a few bucks a year, they've been bugging me to join since I turned 50 --there wasn't a reason to but now there is. Good for discounts and stuff too.

Funny I always thought AARP was just a bunch of middle class golf playing retirees in bermuda shorts-- can they really be re-cast as being in the same league as terrorist sympathizers, radical queer activists, animal rights bombers, welfare cheats, etc.?

There was a point when Joseph McCarthy just went too far hallucinating commies everywhere, maybe we are getting there. And someone finally said

"You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?"

... then again the sliming is much more sophisticated than it was in the 50s.

9. The Problem Is, Tens of 1000s of Us Quit AARP over the Medicare Bill
and the AARP's outrageous president (is he still there?), the one behind the "Louise" ads against the CLINTON health care proposals. So, we do what? Go back? Back then, when leaving them was a hot topic, there were several alternative organizations named.

10. Ahhh, the magnificient Mr. Bill Novelli!
Let's see what our own Pete Stark had to say about the CEO of AARP during the medicare scam:

I notice we're not hearing from Novelli much on the Social Insecurity Scam! Probably fears being tarred and feathered, as well he should.

12. what do we do
I just figure if and when AARP stops representing me and my interests I'll just quit and give them hell. In the meantime, my membership gives me the right to tell their leadership to keep doing what they're doing. In my more cynical moments I think writing checks is the only real voice, or vote we have... the voting system itself being so... ahem... questionable. I guess I don't expect any one group or person to be the be-all and end-all. Like I wrote checks to Dem Party & Kerry campaign even though I was (and still am) furious at them for rubberstamping Bush's Iraq attack with barely a whimper.

Thats my thinking process anyhow.............

Yes sign me up for the Gray Panthers!
