Social Security, United States Treasuries and other Governmental Bodies
Here's a quick question to see if anybody knows the answer. We all know that some are claiming there is no Social Security Trust Fund because that money is invested in United States Treasuries, and therefore the money is gone. Because the United States doesn't have to pay back those treasuries.

My question is, does anybody know off hand if other governmental agencies, say the military or NASA or Department of Transportation or so on and so forth, have invested in United States Treasuries?

1. Yes - there are other intergov asset/debt accounts - and some cash
accounts.

The gov in the budget lays it all out.

The Soc Sec system has a special GOP inspired law that makes the bonds given to the Trust read - redeemable at the US Treasury by the Soc Sec Trust only -

making them unsaleable in the capital markets! - Easy to reverse that law - and in 7 years (the bonds will all mature in 7 years) we could be out of "worthless IOU's".

Do not expect your local GOPer to agree to put SS Trust into other than gov bond assets - heck Clinton requested permission to do that in 98 and that went nowhere with the GOP controlled Congress.
