Gannongate is THE SHOWDOWN between the MSM and the net...
If the blogs can't make it stick, MAKE the mainstream media cover the story, then we have lost, and the bushies have nothing to fear.

1. And corporate media wouldn't be fighting so hard
if they didn't have something to hide. They are as corrupt as the day is long and sleazy too.

11. Only MSM I watch is Stewart
All the others can go away. Heh heh. Except Olbermann of course. :) He's the only one who's still talking about this and was one of the first (if not the first) to talk about voting fraud.

6. unfortunately...the majority of the country DOES pay attention to it.
like it or not- whatever the MSM reports is the reality that the masses live with. to "ignore" it is to lose.

8. Doubt it....
The real problem is not Peter Jennings, the RW loonies don't like him either. The problem is Faux, Limbo, and Hammity......

10. It makes you wonder....
....How many gays are in the M$M? You'd think, wouldn't you, that with all the moral values of the country backing them into a corner, that the M$M would come out and expose the gay, fake reporter.

The only thing I can figure is that Faux and the rest are all gays, and they are protecting their own fake, gay reporters from being exposed.

12. Where's Howard Dean?
It was these types of issues I was hoping he would help bring front and center, that he would become the spine of the Party. I haven't heard him say anything about this.

Harball and sometime Dobbs. Anderson Cooper, who is gay, did an fair job of interviewing Gannon from what I read here. Is he on CNN?

13. There's no MSM
It's the CORPORATE MEDIA, stupid ;), and there's nothing mainstream about corporate fascism.

Gannongate is peanuts, it's not gonna make any difference but wake up few more people to reality. It's making some corporate media whores slightly nervous, but it is not THE SHOWDOWN.

A real showdown might be the Easongate, a CNN pimp (aka "editor") resigning after critisizing in Davos the targeted killings of journalists in Iraq by the Imperial Army.

The simple truth, even though the force of denial is mighty, even the corporate whores don't like the idea of being shoot by the soldiers of Imperial Army, so if and when the authentic journalists (aka bloggers) press with the story and keep digging and asking extremely uncomfortable questions, you can expect at least some Corporate Media whores with some courage and conscience left becoming deep throats and whistle blowers for the bloggers to give more and more legs to the story, quite possibly finally creating open revolt among the ranks and files of the Corporate Media, among the whores who are denied the comfort of scary denial.

Yep, that would be a SHOWDOWN!

18. DING DING DING!!!!
you got it.

the net and the "MSM" have cooperated before, and willingly.

remember MEMOgate? the "MSM" was more than happy to use the RW bloggers in that.

the odds of LW/progressive/liberal members of the blogosphere the same footing remains near zero.

while I admire Olberman and Stewert and, recently, Cooper... for the corporate media, it's a loss leader. sure, they sell more vanilla than mango chocolate chunk, but... if it keeps them loyal to the BRAND... no problem.

and, if it gives the mainstream voice of the corporate media a reason to repeat the corporate spin *in reaction* well, no problem.

and, bottom line, they don't care if everyone on DU turns off the corporate media. less scrutiny? no problem!

the whole thing is 'catch 22' squared to the nth power.

maybe we need the kid on NUM3ERS for a solution?

22. It's a beautifull thing
And it's not about donkey or oliphant bloggers (donkey partisan hacks are only slightly better), it's about truth and authentic journalism.

It's amazing how this whole thing has been growing just few last years, Indymedia, the resurrection of Narconews and becoming bigger and more beautiful than ever, the Dean campaign and the Internet power, continuous scandals in the corporate media and especially NYT, mushrooming and growing self-confidence of the blogosphere, continuous growth and radicalization of DU and other dungeons of democracy, etc...

I'm most impatient man, but patience is what it takes, and just each of us doing our little bit, and bit by bit, inch by inch, the truth shal prevail.

Internet is not and does not have to be the only thing, a thing as simple and oldfashion as spreading out leaflets (about PO, truth about the War, about media ownership etc) could and would make quite a difference.

17. The MSM *helped* the Bushies bring down Dan Rather
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 08:50 PM by Mandate My Ass
They focused like a laserbeam on the "forgery" aspect of this story and buried the much larger, quite damaging revelation about Bush's AWOL stint.

In our favor, bloggers are too numerous for them to take down individually but they're sending out the big guns to snort derisively about what a bunch of demented tinfoilers (or hateful partisans) the bloggers are, while not addressing the humongous scandal that has been uncovered.

The only thing this will force them to do is find one minute detail to successfully disprove and that will be the end of it along with any other scandal the blogosphere uncovers. Just like memogate they'll kill two birds with one stone.

23. Probably not THE showdown, but certainly a skirmish
Without a whistleblower, there are too many escape routes for Gannon et al. And the corporate media are providing one of those escape routes. But there's no doubt the blogs opened enough room in the consciousness of a lot of folks that the media had to respond. THAT'S pretty damn significant.
