Petition for UN oversight of US elections?

(posted this at the end of another thread - but I think it deserves its own.) I wish that Moveon.org or some place like that would start a petition asking the UN to oversee elections here next year. At the very least, this would make news because you can be sure Bush and the Repukes would oppose it, betraying their intentions to at least SOME people. And it would point out how far we have fallen from 'free and open elections' to the point where the electoral process in this country is more like a third world nation's. I have written to Moveon.org to suggest this; haven't received a reply.

This is just like the ICC - I do not want other countries interfering with the sovereignty of the USA or it's matters. An internal, bi-partisan commission should be used instead. :-)

6. The I.C.C. is not a boogey man

There are several safeguard mechanisms to prevent abuse, and if worse comes to worse we can refuse to extradite those in question.

Also how is American sovereignity at stake in regards to committing crimes in OTHER coutries?

We need outside help; the repugs have changed the laws in many states to allow what they did in Florida (deny Dems the vote). The chances of getting supervision are zero, since the repugs control everything. However, it's worth it for the publicity.

Still think it is a good idea. Didn't someone here on DU try writing to President Carter, to see if we could get him interested in the electronic voting mess ?? Never heard an answer to that or missed if it was posted.

I have been deeply depressed since s**thead stole the election and can not take it any more. I read Daily Kos every day and he was so certain that the 2002 election would be good for us. I believed him, and I think they stole it again. What a dissappointment!
