hey how about a diabetic forum
I have had diabetes since 1977 and it would be nice to have a forum where other diabetics could get together and talk about problems they have and make suggestions to help improve their condition.

4. "Yes On 71"
(California's Stem Cell Research Initiative) was initially funded by Robert Klein, father of a diabetic and a big mover and shaker in the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

A lot of endocrinologists took strong stands in Favor of Prop 71.

Go for it.

5. I understand where you are coming from, but this is a politics site,
not a medical forum... now, maybe a medical issues or healthcare form for the discussion of the politics behind healthcare in this country would be more appropriate.

7. Perhaps you should visit the Lobby..
.... and look around and click on the links. There are forums for everything from musicians, pop culture, books, to rural living.

I vote yes. My wife is a diabetic, and the health effects are profound. She knows about as much about the disease and it's management as any lay person :)

11. If it was in a non-politics forum in the lobby, that would be ok...
I keep forgetting about the sub-forums.

8. Stem Cell Research is POLITICAL
The pro-birthers and Intelligent Designers and Creationists and Rapture Right have made Diabetes POLITICAL as a part and parcel of Stem Cell Research -- and Rove is using Stem Cell Research as a "Wedge Issue."

For a lot of us - it is a life line. Especially for Diabetics.

And for a lot of us - diabetes is a "canary in the coal mine" political indicator of where the US is going (or not going) in biotech research -- which means where the US biotech industry is going (or not going) ten years in the future.

And, diabetes is a indicator and measure of the politicization of basic science.

Diabetes encapsulates "most" of my political wedge issues and my political litmus test issues.

It may appear that I am conflating "diabetes" and "stem cell research" - I am actually conflating a politically charged line of therapeutic research and a target disease process for that research. And, we have to do that if we are going to break the Rapture Right's linkage of life saving therapies with "abortion."

9. How about you let the mods decide?
There's an automobile enthusiasts forum. You should go tell the mods that it shouldn't be here.

12. I like the idea. As a long term diabetic, I recently lost my kidneys,
was saved by a friend who donated his kidney to me.Since then I have scrupulously used the Atkins diet and lost nearly 15 pounds and plan to lose another 15 pounds. I have gradually been reducing my insulin intake and keeping my blood sugar and pressure in close control. My doctors tell me that if I can control these two as well as I have done and continue to reduce my weight, it may be possible for me to eliminate insulin injections and be put on oral medications.

I think many people in my predicament can benefit by this diet and I would like to share more details of this amazing transformation with others.Thank you for proposing this forum.

13. I suggest you post the same, with a link to this thread, in the Lounge.
I've been insulin dependent for THIRTY-NINE years and would love to see this happen.

I did try to start something like this when we had the "Meeting Room" with some success.

I'm definitely in.

And for those who don't think it's political, wait til you no longer have health insurance. And stem-cell research, NIH funding, even choice issues come into play.
