Poll question: Who do you think is behind the assassination of Rafik Hariri?
With tensions getting higher by the minute... who do you think is behind the assasination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in Lebanon?

12. What really put this to the front for me was...
today, NPR reported that *s reaction was that he was "Completely Outraged" at this terrorist attack.

When was the last time * was out raged about another countries former Prime Minister being killed in a terrorist attack, unless he was playing America for a Fool? Hummm, let me think...... NEVER!

Unless he was outraged by the fact that a fellow Billionaire was killed in, what was supposed to be, a bullet proof/Blast proof car.

Re-destroyed.

They worked so hard to stabilize it, make it economically viable.

But us? We don't give a damn.

Thought I'd stir things up a bit in the mideast. Things were getting a little too stale for my tastes. Prick owed me money for a bag of hash and a poker game he lost a while back, too. Told me the check was in the mail, only problem was the check never came and I don't take checks in the first place.

we are criticizing syria's occupation of lebanon, which by the way brought an end to 15 years of civil war, because a foreign occupying power is destabilizing and breeds terrorism. Really? Hmmmmm.....

10. The administration had it's talking points ready to go
I think this administration was too ready to place blame. The talking points were flying before anyone put the fire out. Also this was a pretty professional hit. If the * administration didn't do it, they knew it was going to happen and were ready to place blame immediately.

When something happens that they didn't plan, it takes them forever to get their act together - they were too prepared on this one.

19. After I went to bed last night I got to thinking....
I thought the same thing. Only the last time was after 9-11 and the government came out with pictures and a list of all the hijackers. It seemed that they had the information just a little to quick. Since then I have read a couple of news stories that several of the "hijackers" were actually still alive.

Anyway....I agree with you 100%... thanks for posting your opinion.

16. Qui bono?
It certainly has the looks of an intelligence operation and fits with the strategy of tension trademark. It is too early to say definitively but it sure smells. The way the US immediately pulled their ambassador out of Syria also suggests of something being rotten in Denmark.
Here is what Sam Hamod wrote and the link:

" We must do as they do in other criminal cases, look at who had the most to gain from the assassination of Prime Minister Harriri. The Lebanese had a lot to lose, as did the Syrians (he was close to Bashir Al Assad, the leader of Syria), as did the other Arab countries in the region who saw him as a strong leader and a stabilizing force in Lebanese politics. On the other hand, Israel has wanted chaos in Lebanon, as has America, and both countries have been agitating to get Hezbollah outlawed and both America and Israel have wanted the Lebanese to oust Syria. In both cases, the Lebanese government has said, “NO,” that Hezbollah is a respected part of Lebanese life and that Syria is there to protect Lebanon from Israeli aggression. Harriri’s killing, like so many of those in Iraq, is the work of either the Israeli dark ops or American mercenaries who have been hired out to kill people who are progressive in the Arab and Muslim worlds. That is why in Lebanon today, people know that it was not some dissident “Islamist group” (that no one has heard of, nor does anyone believe actually exists) who allegedly took credit for the deed, and in Iraq, where the religious leaders among the Sunni and Shi’a are telling their people not to revenge themselves on one another, because they know the killings are professional jobs being done by people from outside Iraq, namely, Israel and America. The parallels are evident to experts, but these experts will not be allowed on American media. But, Professor Rime Allaf, of the Royal Institute in England is correct, this was the work of an intelligence agency—and we damn well know who the only two would be—because they are the only two to gain by this deed, Israel or America."

18. US set-up for Syria invasion
I was astounded by how quickly we recalled our ambassador to Syria...BushCo isn't normally that efficient when caught flat-footed. I also heard on INN World Report or Democracy Now that Zarqawi has denied this was an al Qaeda related operation.

The whole thing reeks of the Empire framing Syria to justify an offensive of some sort.

31. The US has been yelling for Syria to get out of Lebanon for awhile
this "incident" gives cause to the people of Lebanon to jump on the bandwagon. The objective is to isolate Syria. Benefits us quite a bit.

42. Syria is NOT the "most logical suspect"
If Syria were out to get its opponents, there are a multitude of other politicians in Lebanon that are far more vocal in their opposition to Syria than Hariri, who was a popular moderate. If anyone is "the most logical suspect" it IS this administration. Since when have we cared if any former PM got assassinated, let alone an Arab one who was no fan of ours (and also a vocal critic of the Iraq war). This administration's record of lying us into war is a mile long. I wouldn't put anything past them.

because i really don't know. There are benefits for the US though. The Lebonese are already BEGGING us to get the syrians out of there. It allows our governent to put more pressure on Syria. I certainly hope our goverment wasn't involved but how could one not suspect them?

41. "What the hell benefit is his death to us?"
What the hell benefit? :crazy:I guess you've either stopped listening to (or watching) the News, or you have yet to realize that the current Republican controlled U.S. Government are lying to you about almost EVERYTHING. This was the first blast in the new "push for War" with Syria and/or Iran.

This "terrorist attack" has given Bush Co the needed excuse to criticize the Syrian Government and the Syrian Stabilization forces, (which they (Condi & Asso.)have been doing everyday since) who are in Lebanon at the request and with the approval of the Lebanese Government.

Just wait, you'll see the anti-Syrian rhetoric escalate, in the next few weeks.

Also, just imagine if, every time a bombing or a major violent incident, happened in one of the dozens of countries America has troops in, imagine if the other countries or the EU, started calling for the U.S. to pull our troops out of those countries, you think that would make a lot of Americans angry?

This was, most likely, the first step in the further "remaking" of the Middle East.
