2. What is it with the Chicken Hawks and Closet Cases?
If you took all the warhawks who never served in the military, and the closeted gays who craft the anti-gay policies....the WH would be damn near empty.

Nominated for greatest.

As astute observation like that must be preserved and disseminated widely. Even in these fascist days, the truth can be hilarious.

31. Perhaps the Right needs anti-gay bigotry in part...
...to ensure the ready availability of self-haters who are accustomed to lying, and who are easily controlled.

So Scottie is trotted out to make the denial, and Scottie gets to resign when his relationship to Guckert is exposed. And Bush never even has to comment on the matter beyond accepting his spokesman's brave resignation. Could be.

Sounds like a lot of self-loathing wingnuts to me. Aren't they always talking about "self-hating liberals" or something like that? Ah, projection makes life so much easier.

Unless you happen to be a mouthpiece for some anti-gay, right-wing "family values" agenda. In that case, make your choice or get used to being called a hypocrite.

23. EXACTLY!!!
The right would never say "Darn, I was hoping it'd be bigger."

It wouldn't matter to them, they'd take ANYTHING.

And far be it from me to take my cues from the right, but if that's what it takes, that's what it takes.

62. Wait.. wasn't Clinton's Press Secretary gay?
I could be totally wrong.. but didn't he have a Secretary that later came out and moved on?

It's one thing to be gay. No problem there. It's another to apparently grant unusual favors to someone that appears to be a pimp for gay male prostitutes, and a porn king.

15. Who cares?

It isn't as if proof of war crimes or lies or fiscal negligence, etc., etc., would result in investigations or punishment. The right can do no wrong, so whatever they do must be right, right?

So if McClellan is seen in a gay bar the message from the right must be that it is okay to be gay--at least if you're Republican.

It doesn't matter any more. We who are about to die just happen to like spending our final hours discussing what assholes these bastards are. I assume that when it all falls down, bunker boy will blow the world up and take us all with him, just to show us who's boss.

78. The source stated it wasn't the first or only time
...he had patronized the establishment, which, while not discriminating against straight people, wasn't a meeting place for straight people a matter of course. The date was significant because Scotty was in town on GOP business that particular day. But he is from Austin, his mother was the mayor there, and bar regulars knew him.

He married recently, rather quickly. I can imagine that Mrs. McClellan is probably none too pleased about the recent course of events. Unless she's in on the deal, she's gotta be asking her new groom a few hard questions these last few days.

80. Wingers won't even publicly acknowledge that their offspring are gay!
Like Cheney; or, they throw their gay children out of the house, like Keyes. Some of the right wing's biggest rants are against the "godless, evil homosexuals."

For the last 4 years, the right wing has been sucker-feeding their hateful base with with shit like, "God is in the White House," "Morality is in the White House," etc.

It's the worst kind of hypocrisy, and it's more than fair to call the right wing on this one.

17. Totally OT - who is that dear little gray ghost in your sig, leftchick?
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 05:22 PM by Patiod
We had a wild weimaraner when I was a kid. Her parents were both well-behaved (my aunt's two dogs) and all of our other dogs before and since have been really well-trained Good Dogs, so it wasn't heredity or training. Probably didn't have enough room to run at our house in the burbs. Wildest dog I ever met - gave new meaning to the term "high strung". Dislocated my mother's shoulder and later bit my friend in the butt (unprovoked), so she had to "go to a farm". Made me cry - they're such beauties, and my aunt's two were delightful. I love their blue eyes....

Also, I LOVE your quote - an elderly peace activist in our Quaker Meeting used it recently - first time I heard it.

her name was Brooke and she was just thirteen when she died. I found this cute weimie puppy on the web and it reminds me of her when she was a baby. They are just the cutest puppies! I know I will never have another one so I just love looking at every photo of them I can find. They have blue eyes as babies, then they turn a very golden yellow as adults.

I miss my Brookie so.. :(

the photographic work of William Wegman? He does almost nothing but Weimers as a subject. His first dog was Man Ray and he became famous for doing 20"x24" Polaroids of him dressed in various costumes.

Now he photopraphs descendents of Man Ray, some still in dress but now the pics are more about form.

His "Cinderella" picture book is a thing of beauty. He is one of my very favorite photograpers. His book on Weimer puppies is wonderful too!

I'll try to dig up his link...

Here it is:

32. For anyone who wants background on closet-case anti-gay insiders...
...in the federal government and the conglomerate media, and on the history of "outing" them, I recommend Michelangelo Signorile's book Queer in America: Sex, the Media, and the Closets of Power.

I read Queer in America in 2004, as part of my effort to accept my sexual orientation, and in my humble opinion it makes a darn good case for the existence of a pattern of possibly self-loathing gay people who sit in positions of power and influence, abetting anti-gay causes. Because of this book, I see Jeff Gannon as fitting this pattern.

And, as Queer in America shows, the media has covered up (often unsuccessfully) story after story of people who fit this pattern. The story of Pete Williams, a closeted gay man and spokesman for the Pentagon during the George H.W. Bush administration, is one example. Williams helped cover for the Pentagon's anti-gay policies, while the media tried to cover up his complicity, dropping the ball to the gay press to publicize Williams' hypocrisy. The media has a history of censoring breaking stories of gay people abetting anti-gay activities, and given this context, it's no wonder that bloggers like John Aravosis are driving the PropaGannon story.

My girlfriend and I kept wondering what the hand signals were that the guys at the end of the bar were making. I think it had something to do with the pens I had in my shirt pocket. Is that gay language for something?

I don't think there were any McClellans there.

42. I've been in both male and female gay bars
but I don't disapprove of gays, or work against gay rights, or espouse anti-gay rhetoric. So it's all good - anyone can dig up photos of me hanging out there any time, and it wouldn't be any problem.

Our Center City Phila DFA Meet-ups used to held in a local gay bar, and then moved to a lesbian club - they were some of the few sites 1) friendly to the cause 2) open in the evening but not crowded at meeting times 3) could serve beer. Sadly, some people were uncomfortable with the locales, so they changed over to louder, more crowded venues.

I knew Scott in college and while I have no solid evidence of him leaning gay, I'd have to say that it wouldn't shock me if he were.

I feel sorry for him. He used to be a really smart and nice guy, but he comes from a big Republican political family and I'm sure it's been hard for him to turn down his rapid advancement inside of what has become a cult.

59. Are you sure his father is repuglican?
Actually, I feel some sympathy for Scott McClellan because he appears to come from a rather disfunctional background (I do not know him personally as you do, of course). Scott and his brother, Mark (currently medicare chief) have seemed to fared quite well in the political world. And I'd bet the old mom is a piece of work.

from:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,1410627,00.html

The White House spokesman, Scott McLellan, has dismissed charges that Gannon was part of an underground propaganda effort as "just a wild conspiracy theory".
Interesting quote when you read about Scott's father, Barr McClellan:

from:
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/JFKmcclellan.htm

{Barr}McClellan eventually resigned from the firm after a dispute with Edward Clark. In 1977 he established his own law firm. Some of McClellan notable cases include litigation for exploding Ford Pintos, tobacco-caused expenses on the health care system and the licensing and regulation of cell phones. He also obtained a Supreme Court ruling to protect parklands from freeways.

McClellan is the father of Scott McClellan, the White House press secretary, and Mark McClellan, the Food and Drug Administration Commissioner.

In 2003 McClellan published Blood, Money & Power: How LBJ Killed JFK. In the book McClellan argues that Lyndon B. Johnson and Edward Clark were involved in the planning and cover-up of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. McClellan also named Malcolm Wallace as one of the assassins. The killing of Kennedy was paid for by oil millionaires such as Clint Murchison and Haroldson L. Hunt. McClellan claims that Clark got $2 million for this work.

79. Ambassador Ashe, once a mayor, from Knoxville, I think
...or maybe Nashville.

It's in Kitty Kelley's book, and is heavily sourced.

56. I wish there was a connection between the chimp and Gannon.
This is typical hypocritical crap, but will go nowhere. This doesn't hurt the cabal at all. They will ignore it and the MSM won't even come close to telling this story. Olbermann, maybe, but the rest will do what KKKRove has told them to do. Ignore it.

57. I'm not sure this is new
There's been talk in DC about Scotty's orientation since he arrived. A story saying that he was in a gay bar almost a decade ago doesn't seem very significant, since there's obviously more recent information floating around out there to cause all of the speculation.

The only reason I care about what this turd does on his own time (other than the beard wife, which is sad) is whether or not he was being blackmailed by Gannon into that press pass, or if Gannon was his rent boy and thus slept his way into the press room. Either way - the public has the right to know who is representing our "free" press in the White House, and whether that public trust has been violated. And it clearly has. Why?

65. Why is the sexual orientation of high profile gay Repugs important?
Two reasons.

Reason number one. Hypocrisy. The Bush administration played the homophobic card to get re-elected. Remember all those Red states that passed the anti-gay "defense of marriage acts". The Fundies game out in droves to vote for those anti-gay marriage state constitutional amendments and at the same time cast a vote for W.

Reason number two. Bush will lose support among his supporters if it turns out that members of administration are gay. Right-wing nut jobs don't care about illegal wars or destroying the social safety net but they sure hate gays. If the Wingnut types think that the Bush administration is riddled with gays then Bush's approval numbers will drop and hamper his efforts to get his second term agenda passed.

Normally I would say that a person's sexual orientation isn't anyone business but politics is a contact sport. Progressives have to decide whether they are going to play nice and let Bush enact his insane agenda or play dirty and stop the neo-cons.

74. Ok, Flame me if you want, but SO WHAT!?
I am a straight woman. I have guy friends who are straight. We have visited gay bars NUMEROUS times with our gay friends. We weren't going to look for gay action; we went because our good friends enjoyed going. After all, our gay friends went to "straight" bars with us, too.

Just because someone is "frequently sighted" in a gay bar does NOT make them gay--instead, maybe it makes them more open-minded than we would like to admit.

Let's stick to what is documented and proven.

Yesterday, Chairman Dean said that he would not respond to any "blind quotes." I thought that this was honorable and gutsy of him. Let us adhere to that same rule. Let's not give more credence to anonymous sources than we should...especially when the info they provide, on its face, isn't damning.

76. I still think its unwarrented
to call a person gay because they may have been seen in a "gay" bar.

I, my brother, and many of my friends have been in gay bars for a variety of reasons -- usually involving:

1) Friends that are gay
2) Friends that are straight that like gay bars (I follow females...)
3) Going out with my sister who is a lesbian
4) It happens to be the best/cheapest/whatever bar around for whatever reason.

If one of Scotts ex-lovers wants to out him, or he wants to come out, then I would be prepared to attach the homosexual label to him. Simply being seen in the vicinity of gays (horrors!) is not enough.

I hate the sex shit... it is overshadowing EVERYTHING... I mean I like the joke of it all, but I want to focus on HR 418 darn it... anyone? Can we find that thread again because it will ride on to the Iraq spending bill and it will pass because NO ONE reads the bills. PLEASE focus here for just a few days then I promise I will shut up and let the sex scandals run the show. For now, we need to protect our civil rights...okay?

82. That's the point I wanted to make, too.
Just having been in a gay bar does not mean a person is gay.

(Did I hear a huge sigh of relief from homosexuals who probably don't want to claim little Scottie-the-shill as one of their number?)

84. Being in a gay bar doesn't make one gay.

And being an anti-gay Republican isn't an impeachable offense, even for a closeted gay.

What's really important in any sex scandal is if they lie about it, right?

So let's ask the puke what he was doing in gay bars.

87. I think what you protesters are not seeing
Is that :

1) If McClellan is gay and
2) Jim Dale Guckert is a male prostitute and
3) McClellan got a press pass for 'Jeff Gannon'
4) It's very possible that they had a relationship and the press pass was either a quid pro quo or an outright case of extortion.

That is why knowing that McClellan may be gay or bi-sexual is relevant. If it prompt more investigation into that possibility, it has the potential to blow this White House wide open!

It's pretty short-sighted of you people, IMO.
