Granholm changes stand on Ten Commandments
http://www.freep.com/news/statewire/sw111694_20050214.htm

Gov. Jennifer Granholm has backed off her support for displaying the Ten Commandments in the Capitol Rotunda and says now such a display would be unconstitutional.

"I'm not interested in violating the United States Constitution," she told the Associated Press in a Monday interview. "I was really speaking personally."

During a taping Friday of public television's "Off the Record" program, Granholm said she didn't have a problem with having the commandments on display at the Capitol.

1. It didn't bother me either personally

but if it would make others feel that they are less of a citizen, then I see why it would be unconstitutional. Also, putting them near a court house implies that they have some connection with civil or criminal law, which isn't the case.

I started school in the days when we prayed in public school, and it didn't seem to bother anyone. Times have changed since then, though, and who knows, maybe even back then kids were bothered that I never noticed.
