Has anyone determined the impact of the Bush SS reform plan on Social Secuity payments to the disabled (SSI)?

I've read several articles but none address this issue.

My disabled adult son depends on SSI for 100% of his income.

I thought I would turn to the great minds at DU for an answer.

Since SSI benefits are paid from general revenues, and not the payroll tax, I doubt if there would be any direct effect. I don't know if he has a plan for SSI specifically. However, the medicaid that usually comes with SSI may be another matter.

Like I said, it is my guess that the privatization of SS would have no direct effect on SSI because it is not funded by the payroll tax. SSD, or Social Security Disability payments, which are funded with the payroll tax is different and would be adversely impacted by privatization. One needs to take a look at the budget to see exactly what the administration has in mind for SSI. Since there really nothing fleshed out in the privatization scheme, it is hard to tell what the SSD folks will end up with.

7. From looking at the budget cuts Bush wants

SSI will be eliminated altogether.

Haven't found where it is in the budget yet. However, it does contain a provision to extend SSI benefits to about 1,500 refeugees who are slated to loose their SSI benefits due to a seven year cap that was previously enacted.
