My child will hand-deliver my letter to Barbara Boxer... What to say...
My daughter is having lunch w/ Barbara Boxer Wednesday. As are 20 of her classmates. She is spending 1 week in DC as part of our charter school curriculum. I am sooo jealous!!

I am drafting a letter for her to give to MY SENATOR !!

The question I am asking DUers is 'what would YOU write' if you could be certain she would read your letter. I am certain she will read my daughters'.

Nothing lengthy - I think 4-8 lines are best. I just seem to be getting all gushy when I write it. I'll re-do the letter by tomorrow afternoon (daughter leaves tomorrow night).

I'd like some muses........

(I'll use my best handwriting!)

1. If I had the chance to give her a letter.
I would tell her how proud of her that I am. She is the backbone for the democrats and she rocks. I would also let her know that we are behind her 100%. She is not my senator but I am adopting her. LOL

4. Precisely.
I actually called her D.C. office last afternoon (finally!) to thank for everything! For her vote against the Ohio slate of electors in January, for her vote against confirming Alberto Gonzalez... for everything!

But I need to call back, 'cause I forgot one thing: I've got her back, and I would consider crossing the country to support her next bid for re-election. Way, way ahead, I know. But I can't wait to give back!

11. Somewhere around here I read that
"She donated the stem cells that regrew the democratic spine."

You can tell her to go get Mikulski with the program. (I'm from Md)

You can tell her to pressure for prosecution of the administration and anyone who tampered with the election.

You can tell her that if she ever needs a boy toy, I'm just up the road.

But at the risk of seeming even more flippant, why are *you* writing her? The muse you seek is probably safely tucked away in bed right now. I think that a conversation with your daughter about what our country used to stand for will lead to a more honest and heartfelt letter of support for her to always follow her heart because when she was your Daughters age she already knew wrong from right. After all isn't that what we all want?

The mouths of babes and all that.

You could look at this thread, there might be something there you can use as well.

Peace,
-Hoot

What a cool field trip!

Tell Barbara Boxer that we are really proud of her and thank her for being our voice!

She's not my Senator but I still consider her a voice for me. I emailed her and told her she can count on a campaign donation from me. (I live in NC and have 2 Repub Senators).

14. She is 10. Our Charter school is liberal and ROCKIN'
They believe that children must personally experience all that the world has to offer.

The kids in the school voted 78% for Kerry in their 'mock elections'. Most are dreading the WH trip.

Dear Senator Boxer:

I am very pleased with your successful reelection as my Democratic Representative to the Senate.

I thank you Barbara for following your beliefs in challenging the status-quo, including your recent brave and thorough questions to Dr. Rice as to her suitability as a candidate for one of our next Presidential Candidates.

I wholeheartedly support your decision to vote against Miss Rice's confirmation in committee.

With more representatives like yourself in our great nation, America can pull herself back up in the eyes of the world.

Sincerely,

___________

22. Thank you kindly...
I don't know how old she is. If she is 8 or under, here is an idea:

Dear Mrs. Boxer:

I love America. Mr. President makes me scared and I think he is mean. I think he hates America. He lies so much. If I can see it, so can the world. That makes us look bad. Plus, my mommy has always told me that a Mr. President should be an example. How come I have to follow rules and he does not? I get punished when I do bad things. I think older people don't think they have to follow rules. My mommy does. My dad does too. My whole family does. Why do we have to? Can we peach him?
.... Or something like that.... (Cute too)

If a teenager:

Dear Senator Boxer:

You are truly an inspiration to young women as we struggle to make sense of what is happening in our country. I have become discouraged over the last several years and your courage, on the day of the Ohio challenge, was the hope I needed to even ask the following questions: Is misleading the nation into war not an impeachable offense? Is lying under oath and in public about war, reasons for war, and activities of war not an impeachable offense?

Is bypassing Congress not an impeachable offense? Is theft from citizens not an impeachable offense? Is violating the Bill of Rights, subverting truth, and waging psychological warfare against the citizens of this country not a constellation of criminality worthy of impeachment?

I was not old enough to fully grasp President Clinton’s impeachment. I do, however, remember a great deal of discussion on how the President of this country should embody the best qualities of this country. I understood that he lied about a private affair, but he lied. I did not understand and still do not on how that counts as "high crimes" or even as a "misdemeanor." I do, however, understand that in shaming our President over such human, legal act, we shamed ourselves.

How then do we justify this administration? Am I supposed to continue attending classes and if so, to learn what? Should I learn about how great this country is; the history of how this country was founded; the battles fought; the freedoms won and so forth? If I should learn these things, then this question begs to be asked: why? How can I sit and learn something that is no longer viable, no longer honorable, no longer honest and real? Should I learn about my voting rights when in fact my votes do not count?

Should I learn about religious freedom, free speech, free thought, free expression, when in reality these things no longer exist in this country?

I respect you so very much. Please help me to understand why this administration is still in office. I cannot play a charade on a daily basis. I am just a kid.

Or something like that.... impeach impeach impeach would also work :D
