The last nuke showdown I recall was when I was about 12 or 13.. At the time we all thought "Wow we were so lucky to have had an intelligent man like Kennedy in the White House".

The one in charge now, will be very different if push comes to shove, and it actually has me a bit worried this time.

If you have not seen Fog of War yet, please rent it or watch for it on your cable or satellite ...It pretty much maintains that luck played a large part in our escaping "action"... but of course Kennedy kept his head and did not make the situation WORSE.

The weapons are bigger and uglier this time around, and the man with his finger on the button (which one of them actually would that be?)

Kennedy had no delusions of rapture or Armageddon, but can we say the same for *²..

It never occurred to me that we would be RE-BUILDING nuclear arsenals in the 21st century.. It's got to be cheaper and safer to make friends than it is to make enemies..

The enemies we have are enemies of OUR making.. A fraction of the money we waste on "advanced" weapons could be spent in the pursuit of equality, peace and generosity.. That's how wars are avoided.

No one will ever convince me that people who have decent jobs, secure housing, food, health and happiness are eager to start wars with their neighbors..

Investments in peace and harmony pay large dividends.. wars only breed more wars..:(

What will we tell the children this time around.. We have all realized that the funky little backyard bomb shelters were just busy-work and that crawling under a school desk is not very effective..

People were so absorbed in what to tell the children about "Monica"..What WILL they tell the children about THIS "crisis"..

The people we might be dealing with this time around seem to have few qualms when it comes to killing people...on both sides:(
