Bill to allow Homeland Security to nullify laws passes house
From dKos:

H.R. 418 Passes -- Farr Amendment Fails
by theolock

Thu Feb 10th, 2005 at 12:38:44 PST

The rule of law has just been trashed by the House of Representatives.

Not only has H.R. 418 just been passed (roll call vote),
http://clerk.house.gov/cgi-bin/vote.asp?year=2005&rollnumber=31

but the Farr amendment which would have struck down Section 102 has been specifically rejected (roll call vote),
http://clerk.house.gov/cgi-bin/vote.asp?year=2005&rollnumber=29

and the Nadler amendment which would have struck down Section 101 has been specifically rejected (roll call vote).
http://clerk.house.gov/cgi-bin/vote.asp?year=2005&rollnumber=28

It's not over. The Senate still has to approve this bill, and perhaps it won't. The president might veto the bill (ha) if the Senate passes it. There is still fading hope...

But look what the Republican-dominated House of Representatives has done. Look at this! It's striking that large Republican majorities (90% of voting Republicans) have voted specifically and undeniably to gut the rule of law and grant the Secretary of Homeland Security the clear ability to nullify any law she or he deems necessary to nullify, without the ability of any court, administrative entity, or other entity to review or reject that decision.

That's dictatorship.

That's a police state.

That's the position of 90% of Republicans.

That's a passed bill, my friends.

That's what you get when you vote Republican.

So what the heck do we do from here on out?

How can we make public use of these bizarre roll-call votes to make clear exactly what Republicans stand for?

9. Rep Earl Blumenauer:
If this provision, the waiver of all laws necessary for quote improvements of barriers at the border was to become law, the Secretary of Homeland Security could give a contract to his political cronies that had no safety standards, using 12-year-old illegal immigrants to do the labor, run it through the site of a Native American burial ground, kill bald eagles in the process, and pollute the drinking water of neighboring communities. And under the provisions of this act, no member of Congress, no citizen could do anything about it because you waive all judicial review.

2. Well I'ts Been Clear to Me
The Republican politicians and their kool-aid drinking supporters are nothing more then Nazis.

What's happened here was not unexpected, at least not by me and some others.

The next time you see a Republican, no matter what the relationship, give them the salute that they deserve.

5. Democrats Are Also Nazis?
And the 42 Democrats who voted with them are also "Nazis"?

That must make all of the Democratic Party Senators who voted for the Patriot Act Nazis! Only one Democratic Senator voted against the Patriot Act.

Once again someone is using that term loosely for dramatic effect.

It's yet another serious attack on our civil liberties but I really don't think a fascist Nazis regime has seized power in Washington with help from many Democrats.

Sorry. It just ain't so!

along with the Social Security mayhem.

Distraction for this law and for the class action legislation to skate through.

12. I notice that Ford voted for it.
Wasn't he supposed to be one of the better Dems? Or am I just unable to keep up with the DINOs anymore?

I notice that Greg Walden, of Oregon, once again slithered in and voted just as expected.

Why do they even bother to vote? Seriously. They vote in lockstep. It's pathetic. It doesn't even mean anything anymore, except to figure out who the dunce Democrat representatives are. We know the Republicans can't think for themselves; it's an effin' Cyborg unit, for crying out loud.
