Talon spins to the bitter end ...

"In consideration of the welfare of me and my family I have decided to return to private life."

The reader immediately is to picture the wholesome look at the breakfast table, with poor, put-upon Dad Talon in the presence of the adoring Mrs. T and all the little Talons.

1. is that how he wrote it?
That's not exactly proper English, is it? Shouldn't it be "my family and me,"?

3. I think it means what it says
He comes first, concerns for his family are second.

5. I think it's okay.
It doesn't violate any rules I know of. It's a polite convention to put yourself last in a list like that, but I've never heard that elevated to a hard and fast rule. However, people differ over their interpretations of how closely certain conventions should be followed.

And using "myself" instead of "me" is unnecessary.
