Underwear Police? Virginians May Be Fined For Low-Cut Pants
People Would Face $50 Fine

POSTED: 7:14 am EST February 8, 2005

RICHMOND, Va. -- A Norfolk, Va., legislator says the droopy-drawers bill may be his legacy.

The Virginia House of Delegates has tentatively approved a bill to crack down on people who wear low-riding pants.

Freshman Norfolk Delegate Algie Howell Jr. introduced the bill at the urging of constituents who are offended by the exposed underwear.

Howell said, "That's why they're called undergarments. They're supposed to be worn under something else."

2. Oh yeah gotta crack down(sorry) on those low riders
Are they going to fine plumbers and truckers, etc. who show the crack of their ass when they bend over? Virginia must be a pretty good place to live if thats all they have to worry about.

4. But lying our soldiers to illegal wars of aggression is ok. AGAIN cutting
vets' benefits and foodstamps and education programs and first-responder funding and housing grants for the poor and heating subsidies for the poor...all of that is ok.

But don't you DARE wear them low-rider jeans!

Virginians are so much smarter than this.

6. Will plumbers be targeted?
Will they raise their rates to compensate?

I'm glad to see elected officials tackling the important issues.

Stephen Colbert did a report on this when Louisiana tried the same thing. It's on the Daily Show website under the heading, "Thong of the South."

7. Refrigerator repairmen and plumbers are cringing statewide in VA!
Oh the humanity!

This will affect blue collar workers more than anybody else.

8. I'm so glad I escaped there
The state can't afford to repair highways and bridges because of budget cuts, but the legislature can spend it's time on shit like this, and on criminalizing miscarriages, and ensuring that gay people can't sit in the same room together?

15. Couldn't someone bring a court case? State legislatures
should not give themselves the right to become fashion police. If I were young again I would wear low-riders. Because that is my "pursuit of happiness."

9. wasn't it Virginia that was going to have that miscarriage reporting
law too? I used to think Virginia was somewhat not in the dark ages.

10. That was Virginia as well
Same state that also made it illegal for unmarried people of the same sex to enter into contracts (e.g., mortgages, living wills) with one another.

17. yes, it was a religious nut in Va. congress that wanted all miscarriages

to be reported to the cops within 12 hrs or the woman would be fined and or jailed.

Virgina, as a state, has always lived behind a facade of being civilized.

11. Is it OK to wear underwear on your head? Would I be fined if
I was sporting a nice pink pair of panties on my head. If so. Then they should put all underwear behind "the red doors" in stores so only adults can purchase them without being seen. That is so stupid, I swear I'd get a movement going of underwear as hats all over that state. :eyes: :silly: :eyes: :silly: :eyes: :silly: :eyes: :silly:

12. What about "UNDER WARE ADS" in the Sunday Paper?
Oh for the LOVE of Gawd! And on the day I go to church! I am offended!

This is what you get when you blend the jerry fart-well-ism of Lynchburg with legislative action.

19. They are awful, but no one needs a law about them.
If saner minds don't prevail and this passes, Virginians better start kissing their rights away one by one.

this law cracks me up. but i have a tough time being mad about it, because frankly i believe people dressed like that should be fined.
