It Ain't Funny, Is NOT Funny
But, inexplicably, it was the source of MULTIPLE LOLs. The setting-off phrases are isolated below. (If this belongs in the Lounge, so be it, but GD might use some laughs.)

Sausage swatting ....

competing in the Brewers' sausage race....

three racers, dressed as a bratwurst, a Polish sausage and a hot dog, ....

tripped the hot dog....

swinging a bat at the Italian sausage ....

more of an emotional toll ....

"I just looked over and saw our wieners in a wad," Yost said. "That's the extent of my knowledge." ....

an appropriate punishment for Simon would be to have him to wear a sausage outfit while playing first base. ....

The Brewers gave Block and Piech the day off Thursday. ...."I don't think they'll want me to be back in the sausage races for a while," she said. ....

one of the more closely watched sausage races in memory ....

The Italian sausage won, much to the delight of the crowd ....

1. It was stupid but not malicious

The first time I saw the incident I thought the guy should get thrown out of baseball, but having watched the replay a few times it's obvious he only love tapped the costume.
This does not excuse his behavior. The courts fined him, baseball suspended him, he has apologized (I think sincerely)to the women involved.
Poor judgment, not mass murder. If this is the "wurst" thing he ever does in his life, the gates of Heaven will be open to him. My point is the incident is over, let's move on.

when my patch of umbrella plants reaches a certain point of uncontrolled growth, my Lhasa Apso suddenly goes berzerk and DIVES into the middle of it. Never know when it's going to happen.

Cyperus alternifolius
Family: Cyperaceae (sedge family)
Common Names: umbrella plant, galingale

On Edit: Disclaimer, these graphics are not of my actual plants or dog, but closely resemble them.

3. "Sausage smoker grilled"
that headline, and this straight-faced caption, crack me up.

Persons dressed as sausages race around the warning track in a file photo from July 5, 2003 at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The race, following the sixth inning, features four sausages including a Polish (L), hot dog (4), and Italian (R), and brathurst not shown in this photo. Pittsburgh Pirates player Randalll Simon was arrested, and booked by the Milwaukee County Sheriffs Department July 9 after he struck the Italian with a baseball bat, as the race passed the Pirates dugout and caused both the Italian and hot dog to fall on the warning track causing minor injuries to 19 and 21 year old Brewer employees. 4. I'm sorry, but this cracked me the hell up
I saw it when it happened. It was a light tap of the portion of the costume a full two feet above where the person's head is.

I'm glad he got arrested - the cop made a good point when he said if someone did this in the parking lots, they'd get arrested, and so should the ballplayer, because there is a standard of behavior etc. That was good to see applied to pro sports players for once.

The woman in the costume thought the whole thing was a riot. Saw her on ESPN.

This was hilarious. So I'm a bastard, but I laughed long and well when I saw this.

6. They did!
He swatted one and she tripped, and the other tripped over the first one. Big sausage pileup in the infield. :)
