Reid called the national debt a 'birth tax'
I like that kind of framing.

I swear on all that's holy that the debt is going to become a big issue in the coming years.

1. lol, I like Reid
Sadly, this kind of attitude is 4 years too late. But better late than never

Because it is a birth tax.

12. True. Babies are born already owing taxes
and will be unless we fix the mess of our Revenue system. That means making the wealthy pay their fair share

3. Yeah, nice framing.
But a big part is whether or not the media scumbags pick it up and bounce it around like twenty trillion times.

6. yep
Our leaders need to get on the same sheet of music. We have to amplify our frames out into the popular consciousness. If Dean wins I hope he can do something about our message problems.

15. It's not up to the media scumbags to do that...
It's up to Air America radio to use that phrase over and over again. It's up to ALL Democrats in Congress to use that phrase over and over again. THEN, the media scumbags will finally pick up on it.

That's how the Republicans do it. And it works.

8. good meme
I thought his and Pelosi's speeches were awfully lame, but this is a *great* meme. Republicans invented "death tax" to let the richest people get away with not paying inheritance tax. Dems should get the same mileage from "birth tax". Awesome phrase.

10. Typical liberals.
Worried about our present $400+ billion defecits causing our debt to pile up, when in a mere 40 years Social Security might be taking in less revenue than it pays out. </conservative pundit>

11. That is exactly the kind of strategy we need to use!
The Republicans have been framing the debate with terms like these and have managed to use language to sell all kinds of pork barrel legislation, like the repeal of the Inheritance Tax to voters
