2. No, you're not
Sam Waterston let loose a tirade during a lecture at Yale ironically called something like "What's Good About Television". Sam talked about the effect of advertising techniques being used in politics, the drift from politics being open and responsible, and also said he felt very gloomy about what is going on. If you're not familiar with Sam, who is publicly usually sunny and not dissing anyone or anything, this is a departure for him.

3. No, you're not alone. I've thought about distancing myself
from all of it, too. It's maddening.

If we don't disrupt this mess pretty soon I'm going to focus on my job full time :) plus further distract myself with new hobbies like growing bonsai or something.

4. Why do you suppose it will get better in '08? It might get worse.
It would not be astonishing to see Jeb Bush president, and further Dem losses in both houses. It would not be astonishing if there were net job losses over the next few years, more wars, more pollution, yet somehow, the Republicans grip on power not fading a bit. The media might become even more overtly fascist. There might be martial law.

It's entirely possible that the next few months of spring will be the BEST time of the next decade, relatively speaking. Enjoy it while you can.

5. What do you mean, "feel like?"
I already have- metaphorically that is.
I have become a virtual recluse.
I might as well live in a cave...I can't take the
hate vibe out on the streets from the Bushbots...
I don't go anywhere anymore.

6. Please excuse my dirt, but I'm digging right alongside you...
You are definitely **not** alone, gizmo.

It's not just the fact that the right wing is trying to seal up a long-term rule (20-50 years or more) in the U.S. and the world, it's also the extremely depressing reality that everything has been stood on it's head: reality, logic, rationality, doing the right thing, etc.

The familiar world we've known and relied upon has gone (almost) completely insane. We can only hope that enough of us with horse-sense will hold long enough to prevail, in the end.

Hang in there, and hand me that shovel when you take a breather! :toast:
