James Watt: Ironically it's come to that for Republicans!
Qualified people are important no matter where they come from. But to purposely select dangerous, incompetent toadies just to appear "color blind" is the height of racism.

Rice, Gonzales and Chertoff were long ago selected on a Rove plan to take "Equality" and smash Dems with it.

When Reagen's man James Watt made the following attempt at humor the irony isn't lost on me today:

We have every mixture you can have. I have a black, a woman, two Jews and a cripple. And we have talent. -- James Watt, describing his staff to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on September 21, 1983; this comment led directly to his forced resignation; quoted from Bartlett's Online

Remember James Watt, President Ronald Reagan's first secretary of the interior? My favorite online environmental journal, the ever-engaging Grist, reminded us recently of how James Watt told the U.S. Congress that protecting natural resources was unimportant in light of the imminent return of Jesus Christ. In public testimony he said, "after the last tree is felled, Christ will come back."
