They're going to get away with it... all of it... CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
911, Afghanistan, Iraq, election fraud, torture, maleficence, theft, rape of the environment, erosion of our civil liberties, lies, lies, lies... I now believe the machine is unstoppable. They've removed accountability from the dictionary. They have proven that, with the right apparatus in place, you can do ANYTHING and get away with it. My hopes for justice are fading like the last rays of sunlight over the horizon. Eternal darkness reigns.

When you consider how many times we were sure these fools had finally gone too far and their number was up... it's really depressing, the nightmare just goes on and on and on.

Sorry for the drunken jag, a deep funk has settled over me and I'm already a bottle in.

1. I was taught about the Holocaust at an early age.
I've never believed the world is just.

The people murdered in the Holocaust didn't deserve to be killed.

Most of the killers never faced punishment.

2. This may help, or maybe not. A wise Native American friend told me
"Sometimes the dragon has to totally emerge before the people recognize it for what it is."

Funny, isn't it, instead of a brave knight named George, we've got a nasty, snarling, vicious, demented, deranged, out-of-control dragon named George.

Hang in there. Everything that goes around, comes around.

And she's been thru it all, Palmer Raids, Great Depression, World War II, blacklist.......

The media has ALWAYS been owned by rich white men and it has NEVER told the truth. But the truth comes out.

5. We've all had those moments..Welcome to DU
well, most of us, anyway.

Justice comes in little drops, not floods or tidal waves.

Make sure to light that candle, you'll feel better about the darkness.

Did you think it would be easy? "Life can be hard sometimes, that's why you're strong." "Life can be scary sometimes, that's why you're brave." I tell my 4 yr old that.

Don't give up. Replace the media with your own. Help change the election system. Collaborate to find joy from camaraderie in a cause. Listen to some great tapes from Arundhati Roy (to remind yourself that sanity is common outside of our borders) or Howard Zinn (to remind yourself that sanity can be found inside our borders) and remember that there are millions like us.

If all else fails, remember the impending collapse of the dollar and what that will do to the power of empire. Cheers.

Alcohol is a depressant. I'm a much more optimistic person today than I was a few years ago, before I gave up alcohol. I thought it was going to be difficult, but it was much easier than I expected, and I don't miss it now at all.

10. Buck up, dude.
They--and we, I might add--might escape man's justice. But there really is a 'higher' justice; another realm of law. I'm not merely referencing something one might call "the spiritual realm" (or whatever). Although I am including that in what I mean to say, it is a much more down-to-earth matter. If you throw a brick up into the air directly over your head and it comes down and knocks you out, it isn't because the Godess doesn't like you--only that you haven't understood her laws. Her law IS reality.

Beyond that, we have to talk epistemology. An epistemology is a map of reality. Now if you have a flaw in your map of reality, sooner or later, you're very likely to run into trouble; very serious trouble--because reality is, after all, real. If your map isn't accurate, well, who knows WHAT will happen, but we can predict that something will--and this something will look as UNANTICIPATED as your epistemological map is flawed.

I have very little faith in human kind's ability to extradite itself from the coming catastrophe. Part of the flaw in our 'civilization's' map is the mistaken belief that WE, ultimately, control our destiny and our fate. Of course our actions can have an enormous impact--but that is just it: we do not see the full implications of our thoughts and desires, our decisions and actions. We think all this is only about 'us'.

This planet has been a living being for hudreds of millions of years WITHOUT us and can, if she chooses, abort us in what amounts to a heart beat for Her. But, of course, our epistemology has no sector that describes anything of the kind. To us the 'earth' is merely an object to be exploited.

NOT.

11. Never give up until the Bushes stand trial before the World at the ICC
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 03:26 AM by NEOBuckeye
As dark as times may seem, there is always hope. Just look at Pinochet.

At age 89, Chile's ruthless, murderous former dictator is finally facing trial for his countless crimes. It may never account for all of the lives lost and destroyed by his order, but the fact that the country has come around to consider putting him on criminal trial speaks volumes about the journey the Chilean people have traveled in just 3 decades. No one would have even imagined that happening back during the height of his reign 30 years ago.

What goes around, comes around, and you can't reign on top of the world forever, no matter how hard you wish you could.

And if you ever doubt that reality, just remember that:

Hitler fell.

Mussolini fell.

Stalin fell.

Napoleon fell.

The Roman Empire fell.

The Spanish Empire fell.

The British Empire fell.

The Soviet Union fell.

The United States...??? Yes, we too, are destined to "fall" for daring to establish ourselves as imperial conquerors of the globe. The question as to how hard remains unanswered, but the fate of this nation has almost certainly been sealed with the second term of the Bush Residency. But note that I haven't said that we shouldn't keep fighting against the monsters now running our country.

The Bush family, Cheney, Rumsfeld and the Likud NeoConservatives have yet to pay the price for their abuses of power. At the very least, the cost will be charged against them in the form of a permanent legacy of terror, destruction and death. But it will be even more painful for the generations of Americans, duped or otherwise, who will live with shame, but a renewed awareness of our vulnerabilities and the cost of hubris.

Keep fighting, keep dreaming, and never, ever give up.

That's when I have to remember that the pendulum must and always will swing the other way.
It may take a while and in between now and then it could get ugly, but take heart my friend in knowing that light will illuminate the darkness again.

are either collaborating or complicit in their silence.

If we want Bush, we need to get rid of all of those standing in our way. Bush was right on one thing- you're either with him or you're against him. There's NO middle ground.

My work partner and I were arguing yesterday. He is a lifelong democrat and a smart person, but my having on Air America was blowing his mind. I just wondered why he couldn't call bushco what it really was. Hateful, spiteful and a miserable failure at everything * touches. They have already cleaned out the treasury and now are after the SS funds. Let's just hope karma comes around to bite them in the Arse.
I've become increasingly bitter and it is bushco that is to blame and nothing else.

31. Read Vaclav Havel's "Power of the Powerless"
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 09:12 AM by deutsey
Whatever you think of Havel after he became president of the Czech Republic, he had some profound and inspiring insights into what it means to be a dissident in a system that exists on lies and fear.

The essay I cite here discusses dissent in the "post-totalitarian" Soviet society, but Havel makes it clear in the essay (written back in the '70s) that his critique applies to Western consumerist society as well.

PS: Havel was a playwright and dissident who became leader of the Velvet Revolution that toppled the Communist government in what used to be Czechoslovakia. He was also a big Frank Zappa fan...

http://globalia.net/donlope/fz/videography/Vaclav_Havel.html

"Frank Zappa was one of the gods of the Czech underground,
I thought of him as a friend. Whenever I feel like escaping
from the world of the Presidency, I think of him."
