2. what's wrong with playing politics?
makes it sound like being political and taking a stand is a bad thing - we shouldn't let them dictate the message this way. its the same thing as when the repukes lable someone an "activist" judge, when in actuality thier iconic jurists are no less "activist" but are not so labled and therefore skews the whole debate....

so yes, democrats are political, just as repukes are political, and are seeking to influence and change the system in a political manner....so what's wrong with that?

This is fucking ridiculous. Why are the Dems getting attacked for questioning those that started the Iraq war? Don't most people agree that the Iraq war was(is) a fucking disaster? Didn't this war cost thousands of lives and billions of dollars?

It's like Randi Rhodes always says, 'Why are they going after Dan Rather when he used a fraudulent document... and not the President when he used a fraudulent document to take us to war? Rather's document was at least based on some truth. Everyone now knows that Bush's mistake(LIE) cost us lives and billions of dollars'

32. Post comment too! (Here's mine)
There are legitimate questions about why she ignored the warnings before 9/11 from our intelligence services and foreign countries, Operation Bojinka a foiled terrorist plot to fly planes into buildings in the 90s, and that the G8 summit the summer before was protected with anti-aircraft batteries to prevent just such an attack. Hell, the pilot episode of the Lone Gunman TV series had an airliner flying into the World Trade Center the previous winter http://www.thewebfairy.com/killtown/lonegunmen.html
Similarly, NORAD was running a wargame about a hijack scenario THAT day.

In addition to her incompetence or worse before 9/11, she lied to the American people about Saddam's WMD and what he would do with them.

Asking questions about all that is not political stalling, it's crucial to our democracy. Congress should actually debate these things not just rubber stamp whatever Bush wants. We spent eight years debating Bill Clinton's sex life. An afternoon on lies that led us into war and killed people is the least we can do.

43. My Letter to MSNBC
Democrats are only doing what they are supposed to, ask tough questions about, what Senator Warner claims to be the "most important cabinet position" in the government. One thing that Senator Boxer has done much more successfully than journalists are highlight the lies and inconsistencies in Rice's statements about going to war in Iraq. Maybe if you and your fellow journalists had been asking these questions all along, we wouldn't be asking this particular question today.

44. My comment
Either she was incompetent or lied both about the warnings before 9-11 and the danger from Saddam Hussein. One or the other--either incompetence or prevarication. Logically, it cannot be any other way. Regarding 9-11, either she/they knew or they didn't know. If they knew, then they are lying and if they didn't know they are incompetent. Regarding the war, if she (they) had been competent they would have discovered the intelligence was bogus or if they knew the intelligence was hyped then she/they lied.
What burns me is that if the work of our intelligence services was so flawed regarding 9-11 why on earth would you trust it just 18 months later to go to war.

Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 04:12 PM by SoCalDem
spoke out, were "Playing Politics" too?

Were the Republicans "playing politics" when they blocked most of Clinton's appointments?

when they shot down universal healthcare, instead of honestly debating it?

when they "crucified" Clinton for personal infidelity issues?

when they deliberately lied about the war?

The real question is THIS..

Why does the press call it "obstruction" if it's Democrats staying true to THEIR principles?

When republicans toss sticks into the spokes of government in a Democratic majority government, it's just called "hardball politics"..

Iam running out of patience for a doltish media that doesn't realize that it IS politics, and ALL participants "play politics".. For the public it's no freaking GAME.. It may be great fun for a bunch of fatcat politicians (of both parties) to sit around and "tweak" programs...but at the end of the day, there are desperate people who may have to decide on whether to choose the Fridgidare box or the Maytag box as a home....or which shelter is closer or safer for their kids.:(

47. It's a fact of life

Sadly, it seems like we're going to have to accept the fact that the mainstream media is intimidated by Republicans and will bend over backwards to follow their line to avoid being called liberal. You'd think they would catch on that never, under any circumstances, will Republicans stop calling the media liberal, but that obviously hasn't happened yet.

All the more reason for everyone to support independent media whenever and however they can...
