Just when I thought my opinion of realtors could not get lower
it has sunk to new depths. I have always been so put off by the shameless self promotion that agents feel they have to do to promote themselves but know a certain amount is expected. Yesterday I looked on the website of a local agent and the first thing on her page was a picture of her with Sean Hannity and a blurb saying to "read what Sean Hannity has to say about xxx." Then she has a testimonial from a local extreme right wing radio host. I just kept wondering if she realized that more than half of the people in our city are not Republican. Does she want to alienate more than half of the city? Just seems like really bad business to me.

1. Hmmm....
If more than half of your city isn't repuke, wonder how much negative email feedback she got? Bet she's getting an inbox full!

2. Actually she did you a favor
She let you know you shouldn't be spending your money with her or the company she represents.

Send a Thank you note to the Broker in charge of the agency she is affiliated with.

20. Good idea...and if whoever is head of the agency feels the same way...
you know who to cross off your list when hiring a realty co. or recommending one to a friend.

I'm making more of an effort not to spend my money on repuke businesses.

3. And I got in trouble with a student over a sig line!
Sheesh! That's amazing! How can she get away with that? You ought to e-mail her and let her know that she's lost your business because of that.

I have "Knitters against Bush: Don't unravel our rights!" as my personal sig line, and I had a knitting student trading nasty e-mails about it (we resolved it, and now everything's fine). That was all I did--a measly little sig line from my personal e-mail address. You'd think she'd get in real trouble with that one.

13. She may have actually been
trying to limit her business only to those she was politically compatible with, some business people really do do that, on both sides. I was once a paralegal for a real estate attorney for a few years, and I saw this happen with realtors all the time. A lot of them are only comfortable working with people they agree with. I don't know why, but they just are. And that's the case in many other businesses as well.

I LOVE your sig line, btw! Especially since that's exactly what Bush is doing, unraveling our rights. And please give kudos to your hard-working husband for being one of the good doctors who remember that patients, and not profits, should be the focus of medicine. I know how hard that can be to do in this medicine-as-strictly-a-business day and age. It's nice to know that there are still doctors who truly care about, and do their best for, their patients.

15. Thank you!
That was so nice of you to say. He won't be coming home tonight until at least midnight, so knowing that it's all for the good does help.

I can understand that people want to do business with those they are most like, but that seems to be shooting yourself in the foot. It's one thing to have a small sig line or know that in a small town, someone's going to recognize you at the Dem party meetings, but it's another to decorate your website with everything. What a great uniter this president has been . . . .

11. Bling Bling...Don't Forget Redlining
Wanna bet she'd be real hesitant if some young "colored" couple, or even worse, a bi-racial or gay couple came into her office looking to buy in her rose-colored, pleasant valley sunday neighborhood...thinking they didn't have the big money the fat-cat Repugnicans do.

This seperates the wheat from the chaffe...and I'll bet she hangs out at the rotary and Chamber lunches chatting up the latest Rushbo or Hannity lying points with the rest of the good old boys. This is as much a statement of who she not only wants to appeal to as much as she doesn't want to have any contact with.

I loves these type...I run across them a lot...they don't suspect my politics since I am involved in lots of investing and play with large sums of money...and they take for granted I'm also as selfish, arrogant and insecure as they are. I let them have their say and then unload on them both barrels on their lack of values and morals. Then I take my money elsewhere...or they end up paying a premium.

16. Wanna invest in a yarn shop? ;)
Wow. A liberal with money. Wanna invest in a small yarn shop in Battle Creek, Michigan? LOL! I'm having fun trying to explain to banks that it's a good time to open up a yarn shop (serious upswing in our particular market), so we're looking at other ways to fund it. I don't know how you deal with it everyday--all those forms, all that risk . . . I'm only doing this because I am pathologically obsessed with selling yarn (can't even hang out at Michael's without selling something). Weird, but true.

22. Do you have a yarn shop?
My wife knits alot and is always looking for new and different types of yarn. She just finished knitting a sweater with alpaca wool (even saw the alpaca's that it came from!).

She only has Michaels to go to around here.

23. Fall 2005 in downtown Battle Creek, MI!
That's the plan, anyway. I'll be focusing on good yarns at good prices (more of a mid-range shop, price-wise) and as much American yarn as I can find. So far, I've found five American companies I want to do business with (some of which either use foreign wool or mill it in Canada, which is close, I guess), and that's more than any shop I've seen anywhere. Most stuff is milled in China or Pakistan, and the good stuff is from Germany and Italy, with Turkey not far behind. I have another American company that's mostly an importer, but their long-term goal is to get more yarns made here. I have few companies I'm working with who flat-out are only importers and just get what they like or what they can for cheap.

On the other hand, I've got a supplier for the most gorgeous baby alpaca yarn you've ever seen for pretty cheap, if your wife's interested. *hint, hint* ;)

...a real estate agent, and pretty much a Lefty when it comes down to brass tacks, so shove the nasty generalisations.

She's always tried to keep people from mortgaging too much in regard to income. And she came from an absolutely dirt poor family (SE Missouri, ie. (the Boot Heel"), and as do I, she cares about people.

She voted Kerry, and Gore, and Clinton. Oh and HATES Hannity/O'Liarly, et al.

Think of it this way, she makes money off of rich Repukes and puts that money into supporting a Dem family and Progressive causes.

A few asshole Realtors exist but they aren't all shitheads.

Liberals need to listen to America's clear voice

Published on: 11/08/04

Dear Sad Liberals:

When are you going to face the truth? America rocks. And your social ideas were rejected.

The American press tells us President Bush now needs to bring us all together. The European press tells us that Americans are simply stupid, that we didn't realize the stakes of this election.

The exit polls say "morality" was the No. 1 issue people voted in this election.

Does the fact that Bush won the election mean that John Kerry's supporters were immoral? Of course not. Both sides are moral. But more Americans felt Bush represented their morals. Americans refuse to allow European newspapers, Osama bin Laden, Hollywood or the liberal elite to tell them who to vote for.

Generation X is coming of age, giving misguided baby boomers a run for their money. Generation X wants common sense injected into the abortion debate. We don't want our daughters to get their advice from Planned Parenthood. We want parental notification laws, and to keep partial-birth abortion illegal.

On gay marriage, you imposed your abortion policies with activist judges 35 years ago, but we've gotten smart. If you want your liberal polices to pass American muster now, you have to go through the normal American channels.

Elect people who agree with you. Make your case. Don't go behind our backs to select liberal courts with activist judges to try to get your agenda passed.

In this election, America made a statement. We will not socialize our health care system. Reform health insurance and medical malpractice. Bush inherited a recession from President Clinton. And then a major terrorist attack occurred.

Within 36 months, the recession turned into a recovery; and despite John Kerry's campaign rhetoric, Bush's tax cuts on small businesses kept us from going into a depression in America's darkest times.

You can't build the economy by raising taxes. And the class warfare Kerry-Edwards used to make their case simply doesn't ring true for the majority of Americans.

I know you Kerry supporters are sad. But look beyond yourself and realize that America will prevail. History will show in hindsight how glad you are you lost this election.

21. In my opinion, the worst thing the realtors have done is euphemise the
word "home." This used to be (and still is, to thoughtful people) a word signifying one's connection with place, family, and heart. Instead, the real estate industry has used billions of column-inches to refer to every house they have listed as a "home," to the extent that it has crept into current American speech within the last 20 years.

You cannot sell a home. You may sell a house, but you must build a home and nurture it.

27. I'm sure there are many good realtors out there,
Edited on Mon Jan-17-05 07:48 PM by LibDemAlways
they just aren't in my neighborhood. When I had my house on the market four years ago, realtors showed up unannounced at all hours, tromped across my white carpets with muddy shoes, and routinely left sliding doors open. I was gone for a day and came home to a house full of lizards. Not fun.

The realtor we listed with had courted us for a couple of years with all manner of gifts and big promises. After he had the listing, he all but disappeared, figuring someone else would produce a buyer. The so-called "buyers" were all bargain-hunters who made ridiculously low offers - which our guy twisted our arms to take.

After six weeks we'd had enough and pulled the listing. Then we discovered the realtor had snuck a clause into the fine print of the listing agreement specifying that if we listed with another realtor within a year, we'd still owe him a commission. What a lowlife.

Frankly, although I'd prefer to know that my realtor was a like-minded progressive, I'd be happy just having one who was ethical and competent.
