2. Reagan.
Without him there would be no GWB. Nixon at least had the clean water and air acts. And thanks to him some of the needed FBI reforms happened.

4. W = WORST president ever
Why even bother? Although one could certainly give a distant 2d Place Award to RWR just for setting all this neocon bullshit and hate-your-neighbor crap in motion. Nixon isn't even in the running. He was a piker compared to Bush. A paranoid, petty man who actually did some pretty impressive governing before his demons got the best of him.

W has nothing but contempt for anyone and anything. He has no values and he has no value. He is the front man for the most evil band of thugs in our nation's history.

5. * - for so many reasons.
At least Nixon was a social progressive, EPA, Choice, etc. Ronnie, I believe, was only in real control for a little while. * is not only evil, but stupid to boot. It would take me a year, at least, to document all the things he has screwed up, is screwing up and will screw up. He is, without a doubt, the worst president ever!

9. Reagan
Bush and Nixon at least have the decency to look evil. Reagan managed to look and act like your favorite uncle--the one whose memory was slipping a bit who told long, rambling stories. It was his charming folksiness that gave the neocons their first real foothold.

10. Oh that's a no brainer: Bush (who has no brain)
Nixon was a crook and prolonged the war, but on domestic policy matters he basically governed as a New Deal Democrat. Nixon gave us OSHA, EPA, the Endangered Species Act, consumer protection laws and a much more reasonable drug policy. Nixon also ended the draft. This president wants to bring it back.

Reagan did not mess with Social Security, and for all his talk, he never really was all that committed to the issue agenda of the religious right. His son Ron, put it nicely when he said that his father viewed his Christianity as responsibility, not a mandate. Also, Reagan also was willing to roll back parts of his irresponsible tax cuts of 1981 after the deficit exploded. Unlike Bush, he had a clear command of the English language, and was smarter than people generally realized (though his memory was visibly failing by the second term).

12. Nixon was evil, corrupt and smart. Bush is evil, corrupt and incompetant.
It is Bush who will go down as the most pathetic President in history, and the generation of Americans who put him in office will be remembered as equally pathetic.

This includes all of us.

27. I gotta agree with ya NNadir.
As much as I relished hating Nixon, he did have a brain. Also, he opened China. That's the one thing he gets a little respect for from me. And he gets a few points for Watergate being such an entertaining scandal. Bush just doesn't have the gray matter to operate the ship of state.

16. Come on. Nixon's not even in the top ten anymore
Nixon was the president you loved to hate.

I think he could have beaten McGovern without the Watergate break-ins. McGovern handed Nixon the 1972 win the second he ditched Thomas Eagleton.

Drop out Watergate and the war, and Nixon is one of our better presidents, strange as that may seem. He got good things done.

Bush is definitely the worst president we've ever seen, followed by his dad and Herbert Hoover. Reagan I don't know how to judge--he sucked as a president, but the Reagan administration was essentially GHWB's first two terms, so should we call *him* a rotten president? One can argue that Reagan really shouldn't have been allowed to remain in office anyway.

22. Hoover was a good and decent man......
Hoover just happened to be president when all of the chickens came home to roost. In a lot of ways, he resembles Jimmy Carter. They were both engineers and both highly intelligent. Neither one of them had the vision or the ability to rally the country at a time when the wheels were coming off. Both men redeemed themselves after their presidencies by continuing to serve their countries and the world in lesser capacities.

Nixon was a wretched, calculating and very evil man. Reagan was an idiot and later an Alzheimer's sufferer that was taken advantage of by the people around him. GWB is the most dangerous person to ever "lead" this country as demonstrated by the last four years.

Edited on Sat Jan-15-05 08:28 PM by brindis_desala
Committed treason by trading arms to IRANIANS in exchange for their holding the US hostages until after the election thus insuring his 'victory' (which was also questionable), nuclear arms buildup, star wars, "welfare queens", voodoo economics,
financed Mujahadeen jihadists, supported authoritarian regimes including apartheid South Africa and practically all of South and Central America where CIA trained death squads murdered over a million people, Invaded Grenada. Broke the law by violating Congress' Boland Amendment by supporting the Contras using profits from crack cocaine dispersed in the African American community.
* is just less "likable".

Due to his policies in so many countries and the more deaths it lead too. For example, Central America and Afghanistan (though its very ironic that Carter started many of these policies). Reagan also spawned a whole host neo-crazies that are in power now.

42. Nixon was worst. But Bush will do way more damage.
Edited on Sun Jan-16-05 04:23 AM by AP
Nixon was an evil motherfucker, but he actually cared a slight bit about the American working man for some crazy reason. And that craziness is why the Republicans probably shitcanned him. (I don't think Watergate could have happened if some Repubicans weren't on board.)

Bush doesn't care about the working American at all. He only cares about shifting wealth to the wealthy. But I think of him as more clinical precise. Nixon was on a different plane. It's hard to compare.

What am I saying, all three are equally bad.

43. With Nixon, the damage could be repaired, with Reagan
historians will look back and pinpoint his presidency with the end of the American elightenment- the beginning of an era of contempt for knowledge, equality and responsible application of the law and the push toward fundamentalism, unaccountible corruption and injustice.

Reagan and the far right cronies who rode in with him set the stage for all that's happening now- which is nothing less than the wholesale failure of the American experiment.
