Some House Republicans and their "coded" e-mail names:
Some examples: “Thucydides,” (Rep. Richard Baker ) “TheBigA,” (Rep. Ander Crenshaw ) and “Banjoplayer” (Rep. Joe Knollenberg ). Here's the full article from the Hill: http://www.hillnews.com/thehill/export/TheHill/News/Frontpage/011205/snafu.html

Some E-Mail Whiplash on the Hill

It started out as a routine e-mail from the office of Rep. Roy Blunt -- aka the House majority whip -- to various Republicans on Capitol Hill. Just a "Whip Floor Update," which staffers get numerous times a day (if Congress is in session, that is).
<snip>
Eh. Normal. Boring. Until you open it and see the e-mail addresses of more than 100 Republican reps, all meant to be in the blind carbon-copy section but accidentally placed in the "To" section, making them visible to all. (Oh, the poor staffer responsible for the Thursday e-mail. We figure this isn't the best way to start your first week on the job -- but, on the flip side, this could make the 22-year-old one of the most popular guys on the Hill.)

E-mails on the Hill follow a certain format, but most members of Congress choose a distinct handle to avoid the dreaded spam. So naturally Hill denizens immediately searched the list to see what members had picked for their address names. "There were some very interesting e-mail addresses," one aide told us.

<snip>

Rep. Jo Ann Davis (Va.) based hers on one of her horses (Smokey)
Rep. Scott Garrett (N.J.) picked his dog, Rusty.
Rep. SamJohnson (Tex.), his is Tiger
Mark Kirk (Ill.), who chose "prowler"
Rep. Joe Knollenberg (Mich.) is the self-explanatory banjoplayer
Rep. Richard Baker (La.) seems to like Thucydides
Rep. Butch Otter (Idaho): Idaho star.

<snip>
"But our personal favorite is Rep. Ander Crenshaw (Fla.), who goes by TheBigA. His office explained: "A staff member tried to come up with something that wouldn't catch a lot of the typical spam." Oh sure, blame it on the staff!"
<snip>
And just in case you're getting ideas about taking advantage of these e-mail addresses, some press secretaries told us: Uh, we'll be changing it now.

3. Guess this is another layer of the secret government
Wouldn't want the actual constituents and voters to be able to contact these assholes. I can understand having a "spam" proof email address but this is just another example of the ways the elected officials try to insulate themselves from hearing from anybody but the people in the "club."

4. My best guesses
House e-mail addresses are typically one’s first name and last name, separated by a period and followed by “@mail.house .gov.”

But some lawmakers have their e-mails directed to a BlackBerry or other handheld, wireless personal digital assistant or to an IMCingular account.

Most lawmakers’ addresses are some combination of their first and last names, their initials or their first names followed by “HR,” which presumably stands for House of Representatives. Regardless of where the e-mails are sent, lawmakers do not have to adhere to a standard e-mail form.

Some lawmakers’ addresses use the number of their congressional districts or a random combination of numbers.

Other nicknames include “Congo” (Rep. George Radono-vich Calif.), “Bertram” (Rep. John Shadegg Ariz.), “Tiger” (Rep. Sam Johnson Texas) and “bluegold” (Rep. Mark Green Wis.). Some use their sons’ and daughters’ names. A few use geographical place names.

http://www.hillnews.com/thehill/export/TheHill/News/Frontpage/011205/snafu.html

Why didn't they publish the whole list???

Anyway, here are my guesses:

Smokey@mail.house.gov
Rusty@mail.house.gov
Tiger@mail.house.gov
prowler@mail.house.gov
banjoplayer@mail.house.gov
Thucydides@mail.house.gov
Idaho.star@mail.house.gov
Idahostar@mail.house.gov
Idaho_star@mail.house.gov
TheBigA@mail.house.gov
3030@mail.house.gov
Jim.Gerlach3030@mail.house.gov
Congo@mail.house.gov
Bertram@mail.house.gov
(Does that mean Rep. George Radono watches Crank Yankers?)

bluegold@mail.house.gov

Be careful not to post these all over the place, or they may get harvested by spammers.

Do not post these in the alt.business.multilevel newsgroups on Usenet / Google Groups.

That would be bad, m'kay?

11. No, it's simply controlling how much email you get
You have to understand how much email these people get. This is simply a method of controlling it; just like you can't call their cell phone, you have to call their office.

9. Not these ones apparently
These are the private VIP email accounts, the masses are expected to use the ones that are posted on their website. I don't think this is too out of hand, they probably get a lot of consitutent email, and they need to keep it seperate from internal house/senate stuff. Still kinda funny it leaked out though....
