Let's call them prigs
I'm sick and tired of how the religious right is trying to brainwash everyone into priggishness. The outrage over Howard Stern, the FCC imposition of big fines for dirty words, the Janet Jackson incident, and now the uproar by the NFL after Randy Moss pretended to "moon" in the endzone.

If people are really offended by such antics, they shouldn't watch football. Certainly the sight of grown men mauling each other is worse than Randy Moss' harmless little prank. The only reason his prank is getting any attention is because the religious right is brainwashing more and more people. What Randy Moss did was good. It was funny. It would have been even better if he showed a little of his butt. A healthy, well-balanced person could only smile at his prank; only a prig would disapprove.

The same people who complain about political correctness are imposing a ridiculous moral code that is not only a throwback to an age of sexual repression, it is turning people into prigs at an alarming rate.

3. Have I missed something today? Has the "religious right" said...
anything about the Moss end-zone antic? I think its been overblown but your analogy to football "violence" is a bit of a stretch (IMO). For example, I believe that the TO/Nicole Sheridan bit was not appropriate, although I surely don't condone the Govt stepping in. I believe in corporate responsibility in the matter.

5. The people I have heard upset about it...
weren't "religious-right" types. More like "establishment football" types. I thought since the post was based on this incident, there might have actually been some evidence to back up the charge. I guess its not needed to some.

You wouldn't think the religious right would be too?

7. I surely don't automatically assume it....
the act was as infantile as some of them can be at times. I agree though that its overblown. But, quite frankly, no one talked about it in my circles today. Perhaps, the anti-prigs are doing the overblowing this time.

8. "What Randy Moss did was good." --?
Do you have a link that supports a RW attack on Moss' display as unwholesome?

I agree that there is a tightassed group that wants to censor anything suggestive on TV (except violence of course) but what moss did has a name.

unsportsmanlike conduct.

The Viks had a commanding lead and there's no need for antagonizing.

If an official sees this they throw a flag and issue a penalty. If I was a ref I would have thrown the flag. Not for the "mooning" but for pointing at the defender that was chasing him as he crossed the goal line.

just my $.02

15. thanks
as you can tell from my avatar, I have a neutral perspective as far as that game goes... but if the officials are going to enforce the rules (and they DID make calls for unsportsmanlike conduct this year) they should do so consistantly.

My understanding is that the players can get away with it as long as it's not directed towards another player. I'm not sure if that's official or just a guideline.

13. My point is the NFL has bought into this agenda
Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 07:34 PM by Onlooker
The religious right has probably condemned Randy Moss' antics, but even if they didn't, they have made our nation so priggish that the NFL is now doing their bidding. Isn't that worse?

14. The NFL has long been on record for trying to stop taunting...
I don't buy that this is in response to the last year's activities (i.e. J. Jackson, et al).

16. Based on how appalled the idiot TV announcers acted ...
and everything I read, Moss' antics were looked upon as a far worse than mere taunting. The announcers (was it Troy Aikman and Chris Collingsworth?) sounded mortified, and the pundits say they expect Moss to get a fine.

17. I don't base my perception of the "pulse of America"....
...on "idiot TV announcers" and "pundits". That's buying into the media trying to tell you what is right and wrong. I base mine on the real people in my life. No one I met today mentioned the story. And, most are football fans.

19. dude it's a football game...
I don't think there's a hell of a lot of 'bidding' that the NFL can do for the religious right.

Let him get fined. I'm sure he can afford it and maybe if it stops all the dancing it won't take 3 hours to play 4 - 15 minute quarters.

21. Well, after the taunting that Moss get from the fans
and the signs and mooning of the bus, I think it was, if you'll pardon the Janet Jackson reference, Tit-for-Tat.

23. I happened to catch it live...
It was NOTHING -jeez....

Announcers Chris Collinsworth actually took it as a joke and it was amusing.

The other announcer burst into all out phony outrage. Unreal.
After the game, it was made a big deal of at the wrap-up.

I noted that Jimmy Johnson by his refusing to join in on the bashing saw nothing wrong with it either.

Big F'in deal.
