Will John Kerry Report For Duty???
http://www.consortiumnews.com/2004/010405.html

Early in Campaign 2004, Sen. John Kerry challenged George W. Bush’s operatives to “bring it on,” fully expecting that they would try to smear his patriotism despite his Vietnam War medals. In accepting the Democratic nomination, Kerry again highlighted his national service by snapping off a salute with the words: “Reporting for duty.”

Yet one of the biggest disappointments for many Democrats was that the “bring it on” John Kerry didn’t show up at key moments in Election 2004. He failed to respond aggressively when a Republican front group spread lies about his war record. He then meekly conceded defeat on the day after the Nov. 2 election rather than fight for a full examination of voting irregularities.

Now, John Kerry may have one more chance to “report for duty.” On Jan. 6, after the new Congress convenes, he could join with Reps. John Conyers, Maxine Waters and other members of the House of Representatives in supporting their expected motion for a full-scale investigation of Election 2004, particularly the widespread allegations of voting fraud in the pivotal state of Ohio.

6. he's been saying it for a long time now
On his show and on several interviews. He said it before the election and has said it since. His point was Kerry made far too much of Vietnam in this election, as did the Republicans.

It's odd how relatively little of the post-election punditry has focused on Vietnam. Kerry became a lightening rod for unresolved issues about that war, which acted as a proxy for opposition or support of Iraq. Unfortunately, there was little substantive discussion about either war by the Republicans or Democrats.

10. I agree with your conclusion...I don't think Kerry "made too much"
of Vietnam, though...I think that was the R's spin on it...It would be something they'd criticize, since Their Man's record was so sad next to Kerry's.

11. amazing wasn't it?
Like some media world turned upside down. The idea that Bush could come out looking better than Kerry is crazy. The fault of the Democrats is they let Rove get away with it.
I do think Kerry laid the bait at the convention. The real travesty, however, was letting the Republicans, Swift boat liars, and Fox News get away with their smear tactics.

14. ..."Turned upside down" is right!....I kept hearing people, all kinds
of people, saying things like "is this for REAl?".."I feel like I'm living in a parallel universe"!

..Yeah, Kerry made some mistakes...It just still hard to imagine he could have looked like anything but gold next to Shrub...Oh..I don't know if you saw a new topic on the forum, but it says that a University of Penn study says "odds 1 in 62,000 election was fair"...I'm going to read it right now!

8. military vote
I have not yet seen any national or even statewide assessment of the military vote. I would really like to know what it was. I can't believe it was as highly favorable toward Bush as the press suggested before the election.

9. He's a repubiKan in blue clothing,
Notice his stance on gun control, his lack of a definitive opinion on abortion rights and he couldn't bring himself to get off the fence on gay rights,(marriage) issues.
His lack of a response to the attacks on him may have been because he understood his own vulnerability. The mainstream media and their corporate masters were in obvious collusion with Karl Rove. If Kerry had attacked back instead of taking the high road the tapes of his congressional testimony from the '70s would have been on continuous loop on every channel. Especially the part where he compares the American military to the forces of Genghis Kahn. We would have seen all 252 swift boat guys that were allied against him saying how the Vietnamese were using that as propaganda against American prisoners and so forth. The majority of American people wouldn't have been able to get past the image of John Kerry betraying his brothers in arms, and country that Karl Rove would have painted across America.
