3. Rest in peace, Shirley
Shirley Chisholm and Barbara Jordan were two of the greatest women who ever served our country.

This is a huge loss. Thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends, and a nation full of grateful constituents.

4. She was a hero for for us all
For all the people who had never heard of her she was a hero and for those that knew her she was more than a hero because her work went beyond that.

6. New York has lost a Great Lady
She did us all proud. An amazing woman who always had the courage of her convictions. She accomplished so much, especially for women and children.

One of my favorite of her quotes was: "My greatest political asset, which professional politicians fear, is my mouth, out of which come all kinds of things one shouldn't always discuss for reasons of political expediency,"

Wish some of our present democratic leadership would follow her example.

Shirley Chisholm, We thank you, we will always remember & honor you. You will be missed.

9. A rare and grandly gutsy lady. I am so sad she's gone.
But she will keep on inspiring as long as there are living people to learn about her.

11. I remember when she ran for the presidency how much i wanted her to win
the nomination and I remember how hurtful it was to see that America was not (and now that the bushes have regressed us as a society so far back ... still is not)ready to elect a black woman, or a woman, or an African-American. Heaven must be smiling with you in it Shirley Chilsom...but earth feels the empty left by your parting.

She was a truly inspirational model of democracy in action. I remember her with great fondness and respect. We were blessed to have her -- may there be many more.
