This nasty piece of trash "poem" (if you could call it that) was sent to me by a constituent of considerable influence from the largest town in my legislative district. She probably won't like my reply below but I've had more then enough of this hateful dribble. The political consequences of my words may cause me some trouble but I don't care. Someone had to say it. :grr:

I find this very offensive, and consider it to be a gross distortion of the realities of people on welfare. Please remove my name from your e-mail list.

8. Oh, the Arrogance

To tell you the truth, I found it horribly funny. It was funny, but granted, very negative. We need reform in the current U.S. welfare system to strengthen anti-abuse measures. People are abusing our welfare system and degrading its purpose, which I find very harmful and wrong. At the same time, though, the majority of people who run into hard times and take fair advantage of the system I applaud. Our welfare system works, but I believe it could be better to prevent abuses of it which degrade it in whole.

Agreed -- I'm sorry, I found it offensive yet humorous. I have a warped sense of humor ;-)

Just because something as ignorant and pointless as that poem made me laugh doesn't mean I agree with it. I can laugh at conservative jokes as well as liberal jokes, but it doesn't mean I support what was said. I simply like to hear differing points of view, and luckily for me, this has made me very liberal. One thing that makes America so great is that we can say whatever we want; despite how stupid it may be.

I'm sorry if you found the fact that I thought it was funny in a jokingly manner OFFENSIVE. I believe we should all be subjected to varying points of view so we can cut through the BS and decide for ourselves what to believe, based on the facts.

Again, yes, it was creative from the staunch Republicans, but no, I do not agree with its contents. To represent an immigrant in such a way is very biased and stereotypical, based on the statistics.

Our welfare system is a PITTANCE when measured against our WEALTHFARE system! 24. I hear this all the time that people are abusing the

welfare system, yet no one seems to be able to come up with concrete examples. I have known people on welfare. None of them wanted to be on welfare, but they have to feed their kids somehow when times are tough. I suppose you think the kids should get a job, or maybe the old lady, who broke her hip and can't work anymore shouldn't be on welfare.

Living in L. A. for thirty years and meeting many immigrants from all over the world, I can't recall a single one that was on welfare. Also, the down on their luck ones that I knew were white women, with children, who had been abandoned by their husbands and needed to get on their feet. This is a bad lie that you shouldn't listen to.

you may want to point out the FACT that illegal immigrants aren't eligible for welfare PERIOD, and even legal immigrants are barred permanently from getting certain benefits. The most generous benefits are to certified refugees, but even they are cut loose after a mere three months.

My church has sponsored several refugees, and they all found jobs as soon as possible. In one case, a teenager who spoke maybe ten words of English got a job stocking groceries a week after arriving in Portland.

That piece of drivel is not only racist, it's factually wrong.
