Rumsfeld admits 'setbacks' in Iraq, violence flares in Fallujah
CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq (AFP) - Visiting US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld admitted that America had suffered "setbacks" in Iraq (news - web sites), as a second day of fighting discouraged residents from returning to Fallujah.

Rumsfeld, under heavy pressure at home, painted a sombre portrait of Iraq, a month ahead of the country's landmark national elections, on a Christmas Eve visit to soldiers in the trouble spots of Mosul, Tikrit, Fallujah and Baghdad.

(...)

"In 10, 20 or 30 years you will know that you have been part of something enormously important," he said on the surprise, morale- boosting Christmas visit. "It is something truly historic."

Where have I heard that before? WMD is in the Tigrit/Bagdad area, North, East, West or South of there...

3. Oh, THIS is nice:
"The November 12 meeting between the two leaders, one of several by video conference after Bush's re-election on November 2, was so secret that its transcripts were destroyed after other senior officials read them, people familiar with the official records of the meeting told the daily.

And in another story on Yahoo...

...Rumsfield "told U.S. troops the war could still be won."

Um, I'm sorry, did someone not remember to tell Rummy that the war was "over" 20 months ago? I mean, that's what Bush said, right? And he wouldn't say that if it weren't true, right? I mean, he's the *President*. (Right?)
