someone dressed the chimp in doctoral regalia
Today when I checked my mail I witnessed a horrific and shocking sight. I'm an educator and I get the Chronicle of Higher Education. Provocatively, in a full size color photo on page one was a picture of W being "hooded" at the University of South Carolina campus, in doctoral regalia. For those who don't know, hooding is part of the graduation ceremony for Ph.D.s and MDs. The caption: Is education next? (the article is about how the administration is probably going to go after academic freedom and press a right wing agenda there too). :o

Apparently he was a graduation speaker at USC, which awarded him an honory doctorate. That cheapens the degree and achievement of every PhD. I mean, I think great humanitarian leaders and diplomats can be awarded "honorary doctorates," but not this thug.

I guess he's our national "Dunce Laureate".

Sorry for the rambling post, I just had to vent. If I can find a scanner I want to scan the photo--great fodder for creative defacement.

Oh well, bigger they get, harder the fall.

I will save the Kahlua for another day.

2. Honorary Doctorate
Everybody understands that Bush's Ph.D. is a bit of academic fooferaw bestowed on him for addressing that year's graduating class. It's more disturbing to know that this unlettered man has an earned master's degree from Harvard. How'd that happen? Did Harvard think this anti-intellectual deserves an advanced degree? O tempora, O mores!

3. Here ya go
Deface away! I feel the same way you do. The last person deserving of an honorary degree would be Bush in my opinion.

6. thanks for capturing the graphic
Isn't it positively scary? At least to me it's scary and a slap in the face. I got "hooded" a couple of weeks ago, after nearly 9 years of graduate school and foregoing a "living wage" working at starbucks to live off student loans, after writing a 300+ page dissertation, defending it in front of the faculty (not to mention living in a Mayan village in Guatemala for a year and a half to collect the data), to see one of the stupidest, most immoral people on the planet in the doctoral garb. Looking ridiculously pompous and full of himself too. God, no one had that look on their face during graduation...

 :puke:

5. So now he's pResident, Commander-in-Chief, Doctor AWOL? Next
we'll have some neo-christian group canonize him so he can be called:
"Saint, pResident, Commander-in-Chief, Doctor AWOL".

Now if he could just get the UN to declare him emperor?
