1995 GOP Nat'l Committee quote on runaway natl debt
Quotes

"The runaway national debt has much the same impact on our nation's financial condition as termites do on the structure of a house. A basic ingredient to achieving the American Dream is thrift...
By hijacking our savings, the government hijacks our opportunity to experience the American Dream."

-- quote from "Restoring the Dream", 1995 Republican National Committee

1. Bwahahahahahahaha!
I also love the fact that the GOP is crying foul in California for the 'ballooning deficit,' but has no problem with the national version. (Don't let 'em tell ya it's because the states have a balanced budget amendment, either--that's like saying murder would be OK if it wasn't against the law!)

3. It's more than that
What about term limits? Giving power back to the states? Getting oppressive government off the backs of the people?

You know, the Democrats could be doing major damage to Republican support just by pointing out these major (and broken) GOP campaign promises from past few years. The candidates ought to be pounding the drum on this relentlessly. Why the hell aren't they?

4. 2003 GOP quote on 1995 GOP quote
"That was then, this is now."

{And two dozen "journalists" nod, scribble it down, and it's printed tomorrow without the least sense of irony or cynicism.}
