1. we've got two anti-choice, bush-voting-relatives, so at thanksgiving,
when they started gloating and rubbing it in, I said: Congrats,

but that I was already mourning the loss of preborn life to come over the next four years...

and then told them about the abortion stats for bush's first four yrs showing increase each yr...

AND Clinton's 8 yrs having a steady decrease in abortion every year til finally the 8th yr the abortion rate was at 24 yr low (this according to the Al Franken Show). . .

So many more abortions are coming under bush because of his atrocious economy.

The two relatives were very quiet but eventually said having an abortion was still the woman's fault and it's not bush's fault even if his economy tanks. They did stop gloating, though.

4. I just wish there were current abortion stats I could access - the
sites I've seen have old data. . . it'd be nice to direct them to bush stats and the excellent Clinton stats

3. Well of course it's her fault
she should have thought of that before she had sex you know. That's what my fundie family says. Then they launch into birth control. I remind them that birth control is not covered by insurance and even if it were, many women don't have insurance. But for them it all comes down to "don't have sex if you don't want a baby".

I ask them if they are prepared to adopt these babies that aren't wanted and of course they say no - it's not their fault these women had sex when they couldn't afford a baby. Basically sex is only for people that are married, employed and with significant savings, donchaknow.

5. butbutbut - bush doesn't believe in contraception - condoms are
bad. . . his whole premise for sex edumacayshun is abstinence! Your fundy relatives are heathens! They should not be condoning women even having sex, ever - unless Jerry Falwell says it's okay.

7. So...
I think there's a problem with society when we are more concerned with the lives of the pre-born than with the born...it's a heck of a lot easier to proclaim the rights of the unborn who have already been aborted (who we never have to see) than to have to FACE THE NEEDS of the born. Doing the latter implies that we have some sort of responsibility toward them. Makes me sad that so many Christians opt for the easy way out, and sometimes don't even realize what they are doing...

12. I won't argue with you
I do argue with my parents. My mom thinks that people need to be responsible for their own health insurance and if they can't afford it, too bad.

She's also against any kind of social welfare. I think she's just pissed because when Reagan came into office we no longer qualified for reduced lunches and she had to go back to work. She thinks "I made it without help, everyone else should too". It doesn't matter that she had 13+ years of help and that my dad poached deer in order to feed them many years - they made it and everyone else should too. Actually, my whole family broke game laws in order to feed the family - my grandfather netted for fish long after it was illegal, he "snag-lined" (trot lining with the hooks set so close together that the fish is literally snagged rather than baited) and he hunted all winter long.

She yells about "the sanctity of life" and then was pushing for the war (no matter how much I told her that it was wrong and so not what Jesus would want). She thinks my aunt and uncle who do foster care are nuts and only making things worse.

Sometimes it's very hard to love her. But I keep trying to open her eyes. She goes to church 3x/week, but her preacher is horrible. I literally cannot stand the man. And her church is made up almost exclusively of her extended family (not on purpose, it's a 100yo church, it's just that her family never moved more than about 10 miles from home) and they believe the same way she believes. I'm the only person in our family saying "the emperor has no clothes".

16. when I hear about people like that I always think of folks after
hurricane andrew hit florida. one of the networks was interviewing folks and all they kept saying was "were is the government". it's funny how folks don't need the government until their ass is on the line.

I'm a pc tech, who happens to be black. you can't believe the shit I catch, because I might happen to come to work with something new. it's funny how all the bush white males are for pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, then envy raises its ugly head. and I'm some type of cad because I have a better job then they do. weird shit.

15. I believe every republican who is against
abortion...should adopt a child. Maybe they would feel better. It just makes good sense to me. I honestly believe that if I felt that strongly against abortion, I would either adopt or foster. My conscience wouldn't allow for anything less.

14. Centralized government controlled by a single party..get over it!
one consolidated market dominated by one Imperial Superpower under a single political regime. We have no say in what our rights shall be, we have no say in how our tax money is spent, we have no voice over which wars our children die for.

Let our national leaders be appointed by the Electoral College, and we shall humbly obey without question..
