Can any of Kerry's Swift Boat crewmates sue that maggot John O'Neill?

In essence, John O'Neill defamed Kerry's crewmates by portraying them as liars. So, can any of Kerry's crewmates sue that John O'Neill for defamation?

1. since they were not pubic figures

but ordinary private citizens who were thrust against their will into a slur-book, they probably could. They wouldn't have to prove actual malice, as Kerry would have (and probably could win on), because they weren't public figures before this hit the press.
