As this is the season of spending --- try a reverse boycott
This is a link from the Economic Activism and Progressive Living Group, put up by AZDemDist6. If you have to buy this season, this will tell you where to go. I am happy to be able to go to Bed Bath and Beyond, Barnes and Noble, Costco and Starbucks.

if you must buy, remember to choose the blue.

supporters. They have other faults, but supporting repubs isn't one of them.

Edit to add: Whenever possible buy from mom & pop rather than chain. And that goes for bookstores, groceries, wherever you can.

Another interesting site posted by a DUer this am:

17. many "mom and pops" support the GOP
I will no longer automatically buy local in my area. Too many small businesspeople are brain-washed GOP and vote for policies that harm me and take money out of my pocket. They fight against a living wage, decent health care for all, and more. To hell with 'em unless I know for a fact that they are progressive.

18. You're right - definitely don't assume they aren't gopers. I am lucky
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 03:37 PM by glitch
here in Seattle I can go to the PCC for groceries, definitely liberal. I know my local bookstore and coffee shop are liberal, because I know the owners.
But it doesn't take much to find out and then channel your business where it's most needed.

Edit: and if you don't have local liberals to buy from, and can afford the shipping, buy from mom & pop liberals from the net. And don't use Fedex or UPS either, just use the US Postal Service (which is better anyway).
I think it's preferable than supporting local gopers.

20. And there are times
I know a particular business in Hawaii whose owenrs are split

One is a freeper who does not get it, he would and will be kicked out of the coutry and is treated by the local GOP like a poor relation. But he is a freeper hard core freeper.

On the other hand the other owners are hard core liberals, so what do you do?

Oh and they are all family... I guess mashed potatoes do fly during thanksgiving

2. I'm not buying! Period! I also am not going to patronize
any people who voted for Bush. If they are stupid enough to vote for him, then they are too damn stupid to cut my hair, fix my plumbing, repair my car, install a water softener, cut down my trees, repair my driveway, ask for donations, and the list goes on.

They will all have to pass MY LITMUS TEST...WHICH IS: DID YOU VOTE FOR GEORGE BUSH? If the answer is any of the following, they're out: yes; I'm not saying; I don't discuss politics; why do you ask?

8. Great Idea!
I'll let them know.

I fear if I keep drinking that Coors stuff, I'll slowly start loosing brain cells, grow a few extra fingers, loose all my teeth, and get myself a mullet cut.

BTW, Guinness is much better, and much bluer, I just can't afford Guinness right now.;(

but I'm keeping this site handy just in case something breaks down and needs to be replaced in the future.

You'd better believe I'll favor companies who donated to Democrats.

Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 02:28 PM by AmandaRuth
It was not on the site, but believe me, I know that Starucks is true blue. Blue Up, down, sideways, under and over.

I know Starbucks gets slammed alot on this board, but it is not justified, as far as supporting dems.

Plus I live in the PNW, and SB's is a big employer, a big just and fair employer. Remember those? :-) :-) :-)

that Columbia House donates 100% to repugs. Their practices are right in line with repugs (they'll "give" you a bargain, but you'll really be paying for it in the long run).

**edited to add - I guess my next car is gonna be a Toyota!

19. We bought (well my father bough)
a Honday Civic HYBRID.

We love it... and it does save fuel

Look at the Prius, by their own admision it is not that good on the highway, but if you only need to do city driving take a look at the hybrid, if not check the Civic...

Oh and one more thing... before you go to the dealership ask for quotes online
