George Tenet is wrong
We all knew within a week that the Nigerian connection was bogus. If it was really Tenet's fault, he would have alerted the White House immediately upon learning of his supposed mistake, and there will be a written record. And the White House then had an opportunity to correct the mistake or refuse to correct the mistake promptly. The White House never corrected the mistake, even after knowing it was false. That mistake was not corrected by the White House before the war started. All Tenet's announcement does is raise further questions about why the mistake, leading to war, was not corrected. It's time for someone to make Tenet answer some questions under oath.

1. When was the first time the CIA alerted the White House that the Nigeria documents were false?

2. Did the CIA ever affirmatively state to the White House that the Nigeria documents were reliable?

3. When did you first take responsibility for the Nigeria documents and failure to notify the White House? When publicly? Why the time difference if any? Why so long?

4. When did you personally learn the Nigeria documents were false?

5. Has there been an investigation under oath of attempts to cooberate the Nigerian documents from sources who the CIA provided the Nigerian documents to but were not notified of the Nigerian documents unreliability?

2. No, don't pick on Tenet.
He's being made the scapegoat, but he's not actually the responsible party.

Tenet "confessed" that he didn't try hard enough to keep SOMEONE from putting the Niger Connection in the SOTU. WHO WAS THAT SOMEONE? That is the big question right now.

3. And by the way Tenet needs to be fired in disgrace, ASAP
Sending a nation to war under false pretenses, even if it is a screw-up, has got to be a cause for firing if there ever was one. Lacking this man's resignation or firing, there are no standards in the Junta.

6. I agree that Tenet needs to go
As McCain said, with a number of democrats...."find out who was responsible and fire them" and I agree.

I am surprised that Tenet is willing to be the fall guy for this. I always kind of liked him and thought of him as pretty direct.

4. Nonsense
Tenet is just falling on the sword for Bush. Why, I have no idea. At this stage, the "Bush is a liar" fact is hopefully too far out there to undo the damage. Perhaps he's been promised a cushy job at Carlyle after his pardon.

Even if they manage to pillory Tenet, he'll just get the usual pardon from Bush, who should be the one dragged out of the White House in shackels.

Don't forget Powell's statement about all of this before the invasion was ordered. When asked on one of those Sunday whore fests about the forgery Powell said, "So be it!" That just about says it all, doesn't it?

5. George Tenet is not wrong.
George Tenet has elected to fall on his sword to save his boss. He is lying. He will undoubtedly be replaced as head of the CIA. He will also undoubtedly find his way back into corporate aristocracy, where one or more plum jobs will allow him to embezzle a fortune and claim it's his salary.

Sillier was Condi Rice's spin today that the CIA didn't "tell us to remove that report." Silly girl, she thinks we're dumb enough to believe the CIA is there to give orders, not take them.

Blame the CIA. Blame George Tenet. Blame the press. Blame the only ally we have left, the UK. Just never, ever take any personal responsibility.

7. Condi sez
according to the wording Tenet used in his statement, he is saying that the CIA went along with the Bushies when they changed the wording of Bush's SOTU address to say that Brit's had received intelligence...

...but that does not cover this issue of whether or not this information was correct, or whether or not Bush (actually Cheney) knew the information was incorrect but could change those sixteen words in such a way to mislead the American people...

in the same way Bush elided Al Q with Saddam in the SOTU address.

So Condi is just continuing this same sort of arguing over how many angels can dance on the head of a pin in her choice of words.

What, they didn't say remove the words, but maybe they said, you can't claim you know Iraq is seeking uranium without lying...

but you have plausible deniability for a lie by saying the Brits got information??

This is total bullshit.

Condi, you are a lying sack of shit, honey, and you make all women look bad by whoring for Bush.

...you didn't have any idea that terrorists could use airplanes as weapons either, right?
