What is the message ?
I see all these candidates. I see all the face time on the news outlets. What I don’t see is a clear message from any of the DEMS. I am a moderate democrat and I would like to see more info on the platform. The REPS are killing us on message penetration. I live in Southern California we are loaded with RWRN. If we are going to win the White House on 04 we have to get our UNIFIED message out. Clinton got the message out why are we having such a problem or is it because we don’t have a clear message. Does anyone know what a democrat believes in anymore?

Discussion Please ?

2. Yea Great !
Will that message bring linchpin voters back to the party?

Don't get me wrong. I agree with you. I could party with you. But, we need to unite under one strong message and pound it relentlessly. Every time the candidates get face time they are all giving the same core message.

Watch the Republican strategy they pound away on a message (most of the time its lies or untruths) but the message sinks in.

GOP fascism is bankrupting our country. They should be outlawed as they don't practice democracy.

I’m for eradication of the GOP also but let’s expose them for what they are. And let it be a trial by the people.

5. Clinton got the message out
What was Clinton's message that he got out? I can think of nothing Clinton said that is not being said today. It just isn't getting the coverage that a sitting President gets.

6. Whats the message ?
Exactly you nailed it. It’s already been said so why say it again. I expected a reply that outlines what the Democrats stand for, our platform, our MESSAGE, instead I got it’s already been said. I’m not bagging on you but we have to change the way we do things. Let’s face the facts we do not control the media so we don’t get air time like our counterparts. We must constantly push our message but we all need to have on a core message first.

9. If you had seen any of the debates I think you would hear the message
Our foreign policy is in the toilet and we need to get back to diplomacy.

Our trade programs are costing us jobs and not uplifting the intended beneficiaries.

We need to work with the UN.

Our energy policy is anti-consumer.

I think all of the candidates have addressed this in one way or another.

IMHO, the DLC has kept the party from crafting a more populist message that would win over most.

14. Screw that
The Republicans have only a few very weak messages. Those are:

We hate democracy.
We hate homosexuals.
We hate minorities.
We hate the poor.
We hate liberals.
We hate progress.
We hate change.
We hate the income tax.

Oh yeah, and "We hate terrorists (even though Reagan sponsored them).

The point is, the only message the Republicans seem to have is: The Democrats have no message.

Which, is of course total bullshit.

The Dems have a message. They just don't get it broadcasted all over the media.

Our message?

We need tax cuts, its true, to help stimulate spending and consumer confidence. However, we do not need tax cuts that only benifit the upper 1% while everyone else gets thrown a couple hundered bucks. We need taxs cuts that work, that target tax cuts that normal people pay (such as the payroll tax).

We need progress in Iraq. We will no longer tolerate an incompetant, inept moron in the White House whose disinterest in diplomacy and foreign affairs, coupled with his passion for monthlong vacations, has led us into a quagmire in which over 130 soldiers have been killed after he declared "Mission Accomplished". We need someone who didn't prepare for the war by completely pissing off our allies in the UN security council. We need someone who wants results, not someone who sees the Iraq issue as a means to an end for getting votes.

We need a leader who is genuinely concerned with the quality of life for American citizens. We do not want someone who preaches socialism, health care and education for people of Iraq yet leaves Americans to fend for themselves. We need someone with a domestic policy, and we need a foreign policy that is not just one of perpetual warfare.

Lastly, we need someone who has a message. I am tired of watching a drunken, smirking idiot read soundbytes for a hand-picked audience that pays $2,000 a plate to be lied to.

We need someone who will strive for economic recovery. Moreover, we need someone who will not lose 2 million jobs and then brag about creating 30,000.

We need someone who can see issues beyond a simplistic, moralistic black and white view.

We need change. We need leadership.

We cannot afford four more years with Bush.

28. I used to think that was the case
But I get the feeling that more and more people are hearing us.

One of the reasons I like Dean so much is because he is fairly moderate.

While I would prefer a candidate such as Kucinich or Wellstone (may he rest in peace) I just don't think that this is the time for Kucinich. I think we have to move back even to the center before we can go as left as I would like.

Bush is pissing off a lot of "real" Republicans and conservatives, and many of them are actually looking at the Dean campaign.

If we were in the second term of a Democratic President, I would be a strong supporter of Kucinich.

Right now, though, I think we need to channel the hatred of Bush that both the left and the middle has, and use it to start putting our country on the right track.

Surely I will get a few flames for this post.

that assumes a party, and all it's members, must adhere to a rigid doctrine. This is particularly foolish given the Democratic Party's greatest strength, which is it's diversity.

Now, the direction I would reccomend taking this would be:

If we value equality and free speech, what are we doing to show this. Moreover, what is Bush doing to undermine progress in this area.

I didn't realize you were trying to prepare a list for discussion.

I am not trying to nitpick or trash your statements. I am just wondering what direction you are taking this...

I think it should be obvious that we believe in free speech, and once again I think you will be hard pressed to find anyone that doesn't at least claim to believe in free speech.

I just don't think that "We believe in equality" and "we believe in free speech", alone, can count as our message.

I’m still working on it. But regardless of left, right middle, we all believe in core principals. I’m just trying to ferret them out. I guess what I’m trying to say is I don’t know why I am a democrat anymore. I do know that republican values and too far off from my own. Is it one man's journey or is it a journey for the masses?
