What is with the Cult of Personality here?
I can understand support or lack thereof for certain candidates on the issues and positions. However, it seems to be reaching epic proportions, where certain people will almost deify their candidate to the expense of all others. I am not immune, but I also realize that all of the candidates are human, prone to mistakes, and all other failings that we all share. We deride the Freepers for Bush worshipping, why are we doing the same for our potentials. None of the candidates are perfect, some are not even desirable to most of us, for various reasons. Why deify, or demonize at all? Its like a microsm of religious arguements in a way. I knows what I knows, don't confuse me with FACTS!!!

1. I agree. Thanks for posting it so brilliantly.
There are certain lines I won't cross regarding some of our candidates. I really CANNOT get past the oppotunistic manner in which Liberman, Gephardt and Evan Bayh did their little Rose Garden poser shot and undermined Tom Daschle prior to the war vote.

Beyond that, I don't care if Kucinich doesn't like flag burning as long as he doesn't pass a constitutional amendment to ban it.

I don't care if he personally is against abortion as long as it is not a litmus test for a supreme court nominee.

I disagreed with Kerry about the war resolution but he wasn't in the ROSE garden doing a poseur shot. He has a fine record otherwise.

I am not totally comfortable with Dean but would gladly vote for him..he simply isn't my first choice.

Again..thanks for the post.

All the dietizing that goes on is what leads to such great disappointment.

2. Some people are just like that.
It's human nature.

But most aren't -- here and elsewhere.

So perhaps the wide brush isn't necessary.

4.  I know that.
It's obvious, however I didn't paint a wide brush, I never said, everybody did it, only certain people SEEM to do it. There is a difference.

3. I'm for Tsar Peter if he can...
...Kick Bush's butt back to Crawford!!!!

Seriously, there is a lot of "home team" rooting going on, it's more fun that way. I don't know about everybody else but there are actually about nine candidates I could work for. And at least six that I really like a lot.

Deanies, Clarkites, and Kerryites seem to be the worst offenders in the personality cult area, but so what. It's ABB!!!

PS I do understand the resentment of the "pro-war-resolution" senators but I'll vote for any of them anyway against Bush*.

7. I'm for Eugene V. Debs myself
What the hell, right? Besides, people will vote for who they are comfortable with in the primaries. I prefer it that way, and like you said, ABB!

9. Eugene V. Debs
...great history lesson that! The left has been crusading for social justice since the inception of this country.
"While there is a lower class, I am in it;

While there is a criminal element, I am of it;

While there is a soul in prison, I am not free!"

Gives me goosebumps! Sorry, back to the topic...

10. Think about it, while in PRISON
he was able to garner a large amount of votes. Damn the Sedition act.

5. Thank you, Solon...
I agree with NSMA - I have a preferred candidate, but I have NEVER disparaged any of the others. I have my own beliefs about which of them is more likely to defeat Bush, but I don't make snarky comments about the others. Kerry, Dean, Kucinich, Edwards, Gephardt, Graham... they would all get my vote.

I will voice my support for my guy (Clark) without disparaging the others.

6. We don't discuss issues and positions here -- that's bashing!

:eyes:

It's gotten quite ridiculous. I have more agreement with Dennis Kucinich's positions on issues than with any other candidate in decades but I don't think he's the Second Coming of Christ by any means. I'm in favor of figuring out the best things about each candidate so that we can feel like we could support any of them if he or she got the nomination. I'm also in favor of talking about the worst things about each candidate so we're ready to defend them against GOP attacks. One things's for sure, the GOP will not view any of our candidates as "perfect" and we need to be ready for them.

8. That is part of the reason
why I have not stated who I am supporting, you could call me undecided, however, I will refrain for mentioning them here. It is not that I don't have strong beliefs about any of them. I simply would like to discuss issues that we will take up with whichever Democrat is President in 2005. I am confident that any of the candidates we have is much better than Bush. Then we can start repairing the damage that was done in the previous 4 years.

I agree with everybody here. Politicians always have deep flaws because the system needs fixed.

Edit for bad Pennsylvania Dutch grammar: needs to be fixed.
