My plan for the next few years -- $ and Canada
I believe there's been a phased coup and that fair elections may no longer be possible in the US. And I believe if unchecked this country will be a danger to myself and my family.

I have NEVER been one of those "if Bush wins I'm moving to another country" people. For one thing I think the US's reach stretches far beyond its borders and you'll never be rid of it.

But I think of family members who escaped Nazi Germany, some just barely. They'd likely not have lived if not for escaping, and by the time they escaped it wasn't easy to do so. Wedding rings sewn into hems of dresses, fraudulent US jobs and so on.

I'm fortunate enough to have a chunk of money in stocks - the one area BUSHCO will try to keep making money. And I'm fortunate enough to be just this side of the Canadian border.

My plan is to make as much money as I can over the next few years, do all I can to get dems in office, and if it all fails, take my money and kids to Canada.

I believe in fighting for the cause, but I'm damned if I'll let my kids live in a repub/fundamentalist fascist state.

1. I'm with ya
My husband is from Ontario and my father-in-law has already made it abundantly clear that if we feel it is neccesary, we are always welcome. I never thought there would be a day when I'd willingly leave my country, but I agree with your sentiment about not wanting the children to suffer through a facist regime.

3. I hear you....
As much as I want to hope that something can be done to stop the radicalization of America...I think it is too late. America had it's chance to do so on Nov. 2. But half the population chose Bush. That alone is soemthing I can't figure out.

There has been talk about denial. I think that many liberals and progressives are in denial of how bad it is now.

The only recourse left is to take to the steets, revolt and that is exactly what the right wants to have happen. They will come down so hard any opposition or oganized rebellion it would be shocking to most americans...if they actually saw it. But they won't because the media would not show it. No...it is over.

American democracy is gone. people need to realize that if they are willing to lay down everything to fight against the radical right then they better start now. Each day they tighten the grip a little further.

I saw if you are thinking about leaving, leave ASAP. If you are thinking about staying and fighting...then fight.

14. Half the population didn't choose *
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 04:25 PM by Spike from MN
51% of the people that voted cast their vote for the Chimp. Since only 53% of the (eligible) population bothered to vote, if you do the math the Chimpersonator only got 27% of the vote of the population. And that's not even taking into account all the fraud and other voting irregularities so his actual percentage is even lower.

Now, given that elections from here on out will be rigged, the Repugs will continue to control everything and that's something I don't want to stick around for. By staying here and paying taxes, I am, in effect supporting them and their corrupt system. They could give a rat's ass whether or not I'm out protesting or opposing them every step of the way. As long as I pay my taxes that's all they care about. Personally, I don't want to support them by paying into their system so the best solution for me is to move to Canada. I only hope that I can get enough money together to get out before the dollar crashes. If the dollar crashes before I can get out, I'm screwed and might end up being stuck here. That would truly suck.

15. be serious
if the elections are surely rigged as you say then republicans much just be geniuses. i mean why can't the democrats cheat too? moving to canada would be moronic and would be turning your back on a country that has given you and your family the life you have.

17. It's not that dems can't cheat... we wouldn't. And more importantly, didnt
It only takes 90 seconds to change the votes from a central tabulator running GEMS... all it takes to do that is foreknowledge that it's hackable. You put someone in place and bam, there it goes.

It's plausible, there's certainly motive, plenty of evidence... I don't see why it's so hard to believe.

Spoken like a true Freeper. This country hasn't given me the life I have. I have done everything on my own.

8. Millions of REAL Patriots will not lie down and let this happen
You don't see it because it's under the radar, but let me assure you that there are millions of real patriots out there that know exactly what the Government is trying to do and they are not planning on letting them steal our democracy and rip up out constitution. Why don't you stay in fight instead of running? This is going to be a time of importance equal to that of our Founding Fathers. They had the courage to stand and fight. I hope you do too.

Because the author has children, I don't blame them for planning to leave to ensure the survival of their kids.

I have an older relative who is financially dependent on me who will soon enough be "elderly." It would be agony for me to see them suffer because I didn't prepare myself now to be in a position to get them out of the country before it's impossible to do so and the "freedom trucks" drive up to cart us away to "freedom camps." (Alright, that may seem a bit dramatic, but with each passing Repug corporatist "victory" -- with the so-called Democratic leadership constantly using the words "bi-partisan" and "get over it" -- with Bush "Big Brother" posters plastered all over Florida -- I feel the writing on the wall is getting clearer and clearer -- and the window of opportunity to act is getting smaller and smaller.)

Therefore, I think a Plan B is in order.

11. Why not stay and fight? Did you not see the part about kids?
I've stayed, I've fought, and I'll stay long and fight more.

But if it comes to it I'll look to the safety of my kids.

If my family had tried to stay and fight in Nazi Germany longer than they did I wouldn't exist to fight today.

13. For the children this will be normal
Children living through these times will learn to accept this as normal. Unless there is something that causes them to question, they will just accept it. You will probably have to counteract a lot of propaganda from their schools, scouts etc.

I think you have a good plan and clearly love your children.
