I received the latest edition of my college alumni mag yesterday. It has a section in the back where people send in short updates abt the lives etc. For whatever reason, my particular graduating class rarely sends anything in, but this month there were two updates. One was the married with 2 children variety, and the other said this:
"I welcomed Jesus Christ into my life in 1995.Thanks be to God! The Holy Spirit pursued me and I repented."
After I read that, I thanked God that I did not recognize the name of this classmate. What is very strange is that I attended a university which is internationally known for its scientific accomplishments, from medicine through astrophysics. Generally, they relied on rational thought and argument in their approach to teaching.(They certainly respected religion: there were several groups which held weekly services for various denominations.)
But this really did give me the creeps. Somehow using a college magazine class note to 'witness' about one's faith seems really out there to me.
