it's absolutely sickening.

(Mods, I didn't see this in LBN, but if dupe please remove post)

<snip> ABU GHRAIB, Iraq -- Khayriyat Taaban squatted to rest in the blistering sun, her head-to-toe black abaya billowing in the furnace-like wind. Every day, she's been making the long walk to look for her son at Abu Ghraib, Saddam Hussein's most notorious prison.

The prison - which under Saddam was dreaded for its torture chambers and mass executions - is open again, now run by Iraq's American occupiers. And Iraqis still fear it.

The Americans, who have tried but in many cases failed to convince Iraqis that they are liberators, say they're unhappy about reopening the prison, but had no choice. Apparently recognizing the public relations problem, the Americans replaced a Saddam portrait at the prison with a big sign in English and Arabic: "America is a friend of all Iraqi people."

<more>

Now, we're talking about the most industrialized nation on earth unable to erect a temporary jail? Putting the "liberated" people of Iraq back into a prison known far and wide for torture and horrendous living conditions? Known for mass graves?

Can you spell stupid? I can - "occupation force"

2. I am upset this is done in the name of the American people.
We know the actions of the extreme right wing of the GOP has nothing to do with ordinary Americans yet we will probably be the victims of any future terrorism by default because of the actions of this illigitimate Presidency.

3. I cannot imaging being in Occupied Iraq
and having to go to this dreaded place to call on a relative. Iraq will probably be #2 on the list of people in prison by the time we're done (right after the US, of course).
