Questions about Istook Amendment
Josh Marshall sums the questions up pretty good. Are they being asked on TV? This is my understanding of what the Sunday morning news shows, and the press in general, are supposed to be for, to ask these questions:

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/week_2004_11_21.php#004077

What is Rep. Istook's explanation for inserting the provision in the omnibus spending bill?

Subject to the quality of that explanation, will Rep. Istook face any disciplinary action, either formal or informal?

On the Senate floor, Appropriations Committee Chairman Ted Stevens said that neither he nor House Appropriations Committee Chairman Bill Young knew that provision had been inserted into the bill. Beside Istook, which members of congress and/or congressional staffers knew about the Istook Amendment prior to the matter being brought up by Senate Democrats?

Who gave the sign off to insert the provision into the bill?

I would add, who is Istook, is this thing really his, or is he just the one designated to take the heat for it?

2. Wolf Blitzer asking about it now
Schumer says whoever put the amendment in should be punished.

Kay Hutchison similarly enraged.

No mention of Istook so far...

3. Schumer is all talk
very reluctant to put any blame on the republican leadership.

End of segment, all three were talking about the need to identify who put the provision in, but none of them mentioned the one that the GOP said put it in, Rep. Istook.

They're all "all talk," including Wolf. :puke:

5. Charlie is a good old boy
Don't look to that scumbag to stand up for the citizens, as long as the investment banks' money is rolling in. I'm disheartened that us in NY, of all places, have two lowlives for senators.

6. it might be because it's New York
a theory that I might have thunk up myself or else read somewhere is that the media is so expensive to advertise on there, the only candidates that can win are the ones that can raise huge money, i.e. the ones that whore themselves out to corporations.

7. Interesting
I was also thinking it might be because NY really isn't all that progressive on economic issues, given the high concentration of wealth. And that's how we end up with socially progressive economic conservatives of Schumer's ilk who wouldn't rile the system too much.
