Linda Ronstadt, hummin' an outraged tune
Linda Ronstadt (news) has been many things to many people: a rock 'n' roll pinup girl, a rootsy balladeer, a traditional pop crooner and, recently, a vocal Michael Moore supporter.

<snip>

Don't get her started on the recent presidential election. "People don't realize that by voting Republican, they voted against themselves," she says. Of Iraq (news - web sites) in particular, she adds, "I worry that some people are entertained by the idea of this war. They don't know anything about the Iraqis, but they're angry and frustrated in their own lives. It's like Germany, before Hitler took over. The economy was bad and people felt kicked around. They looked for a scapegoat. Now we've got a new bunch of Hitlers."

1. good for her!
I actually like it when entertainers can demonstrate that they are also people and intelligent people at that.

People who think entertainers shouldn't have political opinions are hypocrits who aren't buying music for the sake of music anyway.

If I like a body of work, it doesn't matter at all to me what political opinion the entertainer has.

3. That's a great idea...

The only way we can fight back right now, as I see it, is to support people of the same beliefs... Can you imagine if her CD his the top ten because we all bought a copy? They would lose their mind...

4. Supporting artists who support us
I'm a big fan of supporting artists who contribute their money, time, effort, and most importantly their voice to causes I support, none more important than our rights as citizens of the United States.

When the Dixie Chicks spoke out and were roundly trashed, I bought all three of their CDs (I've always liked them, but the attacks against them drove me to buy their music). I'll do the same with Linda Ronstadt, I believe I have one of her CDs in my collection (compliments of my ex), but I'm sure there's more that I can buy.
