I have been sitting at home sending out resumes for 4 months, with not a nibble.
Yesterday, I got a call from a recruiter asking if I would be interested in a temp job 47 miles down one of the worst highways in the state. Since I have only 7.85 weeks left of unemployment benefits, of course I said yes. This morning he called again, saying they are interested, and he will do the background check thing, and it could be a matter of days before I start.
About 1/2 hour latter, I got a call from a law firm to whom I had faxed a resume last week. It is less that 4 miles from home! I set up an interview for tomorrow afternoon.
1/2 hour after that the phone rang yet again, from another recruiter. Would I be interested in a permanent position about 30 miles down that same horrid highway. I told her sure!
4 hours later the first guy calls back and says I can start Monday.
I hate to make a promise, or start the temp job only to get an offer from one of the others....especially the law firm next door, but I can't refuse it without an offer of something else.
I suppose it is one of the better dilemmas, considering the alternative, huh?
